Battlefield 1918 is a total conversion modification for Battlefield 1942. The mod takes Battlefield 1942 into a whole new scenario, the first world war. Next to historically correct equipments and vehicles, we try to recreate the atmosphere of these WW1 battlefields as close as we can, keeping in mind the game we're working with. To achieve this, we've drastically changed the gameplay from the original game like so that you must now rely on teamwork, artillery, trenches and slow vehicles....

Today the Battlefield 1918 Mod Development Team is proud to announce the release of 20th Anniversary Edition in recognition of when the first public release was made of Battlefield 1918 on March 26th, 2004!

Greetings to the many loyal fans of Battlefield 1918! We of the Battlefield 1918 Mod Development Team celebrate today, for it was on this date of March 26th that Battlefield 1918 saw its first public release back in 2004. In recognition of this 20th Anniversary we first must thank you all for your loyalty and are happy that so many of you have enjoyed and continue to enjoy Battlefield 1918. As a result we announce a new release, namely the 20th Anniversary Edition of Battlefield 1918 which includes new maps and a new army! To start off let's have a look at the new army in question, the fearsome Force Publique!

vlcsnap 2024 03 26 03h14m37s280

Hailing from Belgian Congo, these colonial troops had gained a fearsome reputation in the decades leading up to the war, and during it proved to be effective troops in the African Campaigns. We hope this new faction is a welcome surprise to you all. Of course this brings us quite cleanly into the subject of new maps thus let us have a look at the first of the new maps, namely the Battle Of Tabora!

Fought in August and September of 1916 this battle saw the Force Publique fight the German Askari for control of the key railroad junction at the town of Tabora. Victory here means complete control of the railways in German East Africa. It is of note that players will find this to be a map in which Entente troops will be advancing from the North and West in an attempt to seize the neutral flags surrounding Tabora itself. Players may also notice the costal gun which the Askari used as an improvised railroad artillery piece. Needless to say this is unique map has plenty to offer for those wanting some solid infantry battles. For those who want air battles though let's move onto the next map of note, Bombing Albion!

One of the things many of our fans have been asking for years has been a conversion of the classic Battle Of Britain map from vanilla 1942, so much so that one such fan decided to make this conversion. Sadly it is not known who was responsible for this original conversion, though we of the Battlefield 1918 Mod Development made some minor tweaks to their conversion so that everyone can finally enjoy the dream of playing this classic map on Battlefield 1918. If anyone knows who the original creator is then please feel free to let us know and we will provide credit. With that said let's discuss another smaller infantry focused map, namely Winter Train.

Centered around the Germans and French fighting over a derailed train in the French Alps, this map also has an unknown creator (though possible one of the earlier dev team) and was long thought lost though fortunately it was recently rediscovered and thus we are adding it with this release for you to try. Once again if anyone knows who originally created this map then please feel free to let us know. With that said let's now move onto the final new map of this update, namely Montfaucon!

Based on a particularly bloody engagement between US and German troops during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, this map was originally made for the 3rd Forgotten Honor Tournament featuring Battlefield 1918. Fortunately this rare most was also rediscovered and is thus being presented here. Expect some combined arms fighting for control of some particularly lengthy German trenches.

With all of these new features covered we of the Battlefield 1918 Mod Development Team hope you are as happy for this 20 year anniversary as we are and we hope you enjoy the new additions. One thing we will suggest is that we are of course on the lookout for those who wish to help in the mods development and so anyone who wishes to help may contact us on this Discord server:
Discord.gg

Finally we should mention that if any of our fans happens to have otherwise lost maps of Battlefield 1918 please feel free to share them with us as we are on the lookout for them. With all of this said we again must thank you all for making this 20 year anniversary possible. We look forward to the future and what new updates will come.

Awesome work! It's crazy it has been 20 years and I've been playing the entire time. I was only 7 when this mod came out - my dad and I used to play it on LAN together all the time.

Cheers to another one! Live long and prosper.

It's incredible that you guys are still going strong after two decades! It's really gone leaps and bounds in that time, too. I've been playing this for probably more than 15 years by now, and it's been great to see this mod continue to grow and improve the entire time. Thanks for all these years of fun and your hard work, crafting such an excellent mod!

Nice job once again!

Montfaucon is easily one of the best maps I ever played on this mod with Bot support. Good AI and the combinned arms experience (with tanks, infantry, arty and planes) in a huge map, with historical accurate context, is simply perfect. Hope to see smt like this representing Verdun or the Somme one day.

P.S. the Winter Train map would be perfect for a future Checkoslovak Legion expansion. Representing a small skirmish in Siberia or smt.

Hello, I have been running a server map test with the new BF1918 20th Anneversary Edition version for the last few days. Each map was played for at least 5 minutes. Many problems have been fixed, some remain, a few new ones have appeared:

1. The Full Edition no longer includes the Xmax1918, which was included in the 3.4b. Please include or offer separately as a download.

2. Setup: Lubuntu Linux Server: Since there is no server version, I had to build one from the full client version, which unfortunately is not so easy to do via copy & paste, all uppercase letters have to be changed to lowercase letters for each file and folder , because Linux would otherwise have a problem with it. A Linux server version would be great (much smaller because without textures, therefore more performant on the server)

3. I noticed the following map abnormalities:
- Sometimes no map list in the map vote selection
- First Battle of Arras: Server Crash
- TGW Fokker Scourge: Client Crash
- Passo di Falzarego: Client Crash
- Gaza Town/City: Client Crash
- Fort Douamont. 1x server crash with 128 bots
- Battle of Halen: Map doesn't load, server join not possible, single player works.
- Siege of Antwerp is not shown in maplist (single player and multiplayer) and cannot be joined to the server. If you remove all other maps from the Maps folder and then start the game, Sige of Antwerp will appear and be playable.

Greetings
