A bit difficult to chose without reference pics, but "black font" really helps, both with the eyes (noticing the main content better), and with mobile phones, since black doesn't consume as much power as any other color.
shepard62fr, Court_jestah, that is not the point. The question is what theme should be the startup/default one. Whether there will be more themes (and not just one) to choose from is an entirely different question...
I would personally choose the "dark" theme because my eyes are more comfortable with darkness rather than brightness. My Linux desktop and nearly all of my programming tools are dark themes for that reason. However, as the default theme, I would say the current "classic" one because it's what members (and probably guests) are the most acquainted of and some of them might be frustrated to get used to.
That does not necessarily mean they like the light theme, or that they would have liked the light one more if they had a choice. They are simply used to it, which means nothing. ;-) That actually makes it sound bad, oh, something that you need getting used to or forced to be acquainted with (because you have no choice) while you really do not like it.
Same here, I even have YouTube and Google in black (browser extensions FTW) so totally loving the v4 layout (and v5 seems good enough too), but hate its visual, newspaper-like side. Perhaps a dark theme (just like Nexus/Steam/Discord), would do the site some good.
"they are simply used to it, which means nothing"
That's what Coca-Cola thought when they tried coming up with new coke, lol. Everyone liked it better, but everyone wanted the old coke back.
PS; sorry if your comment was meant jokingly
You should have included some concepts for both options, because its hard to make a decision without them. My opinions is that the site should have clean edges as it has now, but with some effects that give it depth and a 3Dish look, to make it look more modern. It should with a dark theme, but not too dark. Something like dark theme but with some brigther and strong colored red elements here and there again with similar effects.
Specify: a sleeker dark theme, with gradient Grey, & a less saturated Red. Gradients please. The Black+Red combo is a bit depressing & eye-hurting after extensive browsing.
Thank you!

Seen the v.5 preview, good work guys ;) .
Why not both ? ^^
Both being default? How would that work? From what I can tell the will both be there as a choice but one is just going to be the default.
quantum physics bro ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
We should get to choose the theme in our settings.

Oops, I read too fast sorry ^^

What extensions do you use to change the colors of Google and YouTube?

i think it should be dark but with BLUE or GREEN
There won't be either blue or green. Green is associated to IndieDB and red is associated with ModDB. Therefore it must be red.
Having a dark theme is better for the eyes and makes it easier to read text.
anou...
I prefer the dark theme ModDB currently has. But why not make it optional? Lots of websites have day and night mode.
What dark theme? Currently ModDB has a light theme and only dark and red accents?
Oh, I mean the black backdrop. v5 has light grey.
Wow this poll is conflicted! Clearly though dark themes are superior to light themes :P Join the dark side, we've got better looking themes
Specify :
Same as the Classic light theme & black font, but with the ability to select accents.
(Believe it or no I would actually like a 0,59,11 accent)

The normal theme is in the colours of the second and third Reich...but I like it :D
White on red with black fonts, mirrors edge style imo would look nice
I dont know which is better. I just pick the first one
Dark, with light font, <user defined color> accents. i would choose blue.
