The first four months of Wandering Cat development.

Hello friends,
Here we are in May, time flies when you're having fun!
I've decided to better organize the news here on IndieDB and start creating a "Dev Diary" where I keep you updated on more parts of the development.

I started this fantastic development adventure in January 2024 and I'm happy to continue this journey together with new friends and the support of my family, this gives me the energy to make Wandering Cat memorable!

In these last few months, for those who follow Cat on social media, you will have seen various clips where I showed different features, tests or simply had fun communicating the game world, from Dofos to Dungeon. Obviously there is much more behind it: the writing of the story, the creation of the individual game maps that will shape the world full of food and adventures for Cat, the creation of every single character (including new cats that will be created by some users who have won the past Giveaway). All this while I "caress" my beloved Unreal Engine and C++.

Speaking of the Engine, I'm updating the project to Unreal Engine 5.4, a version that implements a lot of interesting features and some of these will be very useful for Wandering Cat!
Luckily I started from version 5.3, so the transition is essentially painless.
However, this allowed me to update the entire Core of the game, putting together a whole new system in C++ that will serve as a pillar for all future builds.
Meanwhile, the Pre-Alpha of the game has reached version 0.0.7, introducing some features ready to be tested by selected users on Discord (for example the ability to wear hats).

As already communicated in the previous news I have updated the artwork of the game by removing any use of AI (which, I repeat, is not used in the game/code at all), collaborating with truly good and helpful people who did an excellent job!

I'm very happy with how the development is progressing, having fun with my main testers (my two sons). I have many ideas in the pipeline, in the coming months I will try to refine everything more and more to finally get closer to an excellent Alpha version!
