On March 10, 2024, I published the sandbox map "gm_desolate_boundary_line" on Steam Workshop. This map is for Garry's Mod and allows players to freely test other addons and mods
This map is a sandbox version of a horror map set in a late-night park in modern Japan, featuring a mini-game. The map is themed around modern Japanese horror, allowing players to explore 3D models with Japanese text and parks or graveyards resembling Japanese regional cities. Since it's a sandbox map, there are no enemies, but to convey the horror theme, there are soundscapes and events with harmless ghosts to provide a sense of unease.
Furthermore, I used original 3D models and models from external sources, as well as a custom skybox, to enhance the horror atmosphere of the map. Initially, when creating this map, I incorporated scenes that would make Japanese people feel uneasy or scared, and later, I abstracted these scenes to evoke fear in anyone. As a result, I decided to create a scenario commonly seen in movies where there is nowhere else to run, and only the enemy and oneself are present. In such a scenario, it was necessary to create a deserted town or park, so I chose to set it in an uninhabited park. The key element required to create this setting was 3D models, which meant I needed to create them with my limited knowledge.
Many of the 3D models I created were related to life and death. These included signs indicating no entry, cones warning of the danger of falling, embodiments of bloody Buddhas (connected to hell), and bulletin boards announcing missing persons. While these were relatively easy to model, I felt uneasy when drawing textures for the models. At times, I felt so unwell that I had to stop modeling altogether.
There is still a lot of information that I cannot disclose, but if you are interested after seeing the screenshots, please give it a try
