Maps menu will show screenshots of maps, however, Quake 1 maps do not have levelshots\e1m1.jpg. Type "levelshot_maps_all" and Zircon will screenshot all maps in the current game directory only (i.e. you start Quake, it will do "id1" only .. start Travail, it will do Travail gamedir maps only). vid_samples probably works now, this is anti-aliasing that has not worked in DarkPlaces in a long time -- need verification from someone with a good eye as anti-aliasing using multisample is difficult to make out with a good test.
