Devlog #2 — Progress!

Hi everyone and welcome back to another devlog! Today we are going to show you some of the progress we were able to make throughout this week and the posterior one. Since we made a 'big' update on the last one, we didn't have much to update you on regarding last week, so we decided to make it now!

We could say that we are getting to a point where we are liking it and can show you some visual aids so you can imagine our game with us! Again our programmer developed a big part during these weeks, and there was some updates on regards of the art and slight alterations when it comes to game design.

Artwise...

As we did last time, talking about one of each members, we are going to start with our artist! He was able to finish the thumbnails for the game level, where you can have some idea how it's going to look like in some parts of the level - Figure 1 -, also, he was able to start detailing some of these to sketches, since we are going to use at least 3 of these thumbnails to get a deeper look into what it will look like in game - Figure 2 -, it's not finished yet, however, in the next update we will have some more to show you artwise.

Regarding Programming...

As said before, we think that the person who made the most progress again, was our game programmer! She was able to finish the enemy movement - GIF 1 -, she did the player damage, restoring health and therefore its life bar, the player respawn and death - GIF 2, GIF 3 -, also, she was able to make one of visual feedbacks we would have when taking a picture, which would be of when you are in the correct place to take the picture, there will be a change of the shutter button in the camera (for the puzzle). Not only that, but she made our static objects that will open up new paths for you to get through, which we will show you in a future update, and she made obstacle mechanic, our bubble system (it doesn't have the bubbles yet on the GIFs however it's the mechanic of pushing the player upwards) - GIF 4 - as well as our static objects that will hurt the player - GIF 5 -! To finish, she was able to make the menus for our game, which will be updated after our artist took care of the game UI and she started creating our kind of inventory, where it will store some information about the marine biodiversity and the pictures you gather - GIF 6, GIF 7, GIF 8 -.

Just a P.S. we are using a pixel art free asset from Unity from Pixel Adventure Series to use as placeholders for now, however our game is not similar in a way to this, it's only to exemplify the mechanics and what our programmer made!

Game Design...

When it comes to game design, I had to make some adjustments to our game systems, they still talk about the same systems, however, I had a slight error when I made those, so here are the new ones - Figure 3, Figure 4 -! I also finished creating our game narrative and explaining it with detail for a better understanding of it, for our academic report!

I was also able to make our Game Loop to have a more visual idea of how it would work in a loop - Figure 5 -. Not only that, but I started altering some of the marketing personas, which I will be able to show you some examples next week, to have it truly finished, so you can have an idea how it would apply to our target!

I also made some slight alterations on the Feedback & Signs, which include adding the shutter button changing sort of colors to get your attention to show you that it's the correct position for you to take the picture - Figure 6 -.
