Oct 16, 2008 Full Version 0 commentsAlien Arena 2008 is a freeware online deathmatch game with fast and furious action for Windows and Linux! The game runs on the CRX engine, and features...
Alien Arena 2008 is a standalone game based off of the Quake II/III source that combines a classic sci-fi atmosphere with the tournament style deathmatch of Q3A and UT2k4. With major graphical enhancements such as hi-res 24/32 bit tga textures, light blooms, real time lights and shadows, per pixel lighting, stainmaps, textured particles, shaders, and reflective water, Alien Arena brings the Quake II engine into modern gaming. The game also includes mutators, adjustable effects, bot skill settings, and fully configurable deathmatch, team deathmatch, CTF, All Out Assault, Team Core Assault, Cattle Prod, and Deathball games.
The game features all original artwork, with player models in the 2000 poly range, hi-res textures, and trippy, techno type music. There are currently over 45 maps, loaded with weapons(each having an alternate firing mode) and powerups.
Alien Arena has fast, smooth gameplay with a high-tech atmosphere, and players can play online against one another or against the bots, which feature multiple skill levels, and will rocket jump, strafe jump, and taunt you mercilessly.
The search is on to find the hottest indie game of 2008, so if
you believe this is the one - vote for it. Everybody can vote
all they want, however, guest votes only count in the event
of a tie. For rules, prizes, movies & more - head on over

Version 7.20 of Alien Arena will be released in early September. There are a number of new features, as always, that have been added. A great number of these involve the renderer, and optmizations of code that have resulted in some very impressive performance gains, especially during instances of heavy action, which have been an admitted problem in the past. There have been a number of bugfixes and gameplay enhancements as well. The list is far too long to list here, but a changelog as well as a tech video will be made available in the coming weeks. There will be several new maps and other content, some of which is still in development.
Later in August, during Qexpo, COR Entertainment will be holding a series of tournaments for various prizes as we always do this time of year. More details regarding signups, schedule and prizes will be forthcoming.

A very faithful remake of the classic Q3DM17 "The Longest Yard" for Alien Arena 2007.
This is a retexure/retooling of the original Quake 1 deathmatch map released by id in fall of 2006.

nice! best free game..ever.
just needs an engine update for 2009 :)
Thanks :) Yeah we are working on the engine constantly, by 2009 I'd expect it to be quite more advanced, and probably a bit faster even.
Ok this site is a bit borked, twice I tried to post this in response to the guy who wanted to know if it was anything like UT2k4 and it put it at the top...
If you like UT2k4 you should like this game then. Style is definitely along those lines, and there is also alternate firing modes and dodging.

Looks awesome! Can't believe it runs on Q3.
Actually it's based on Q2 sources :)
Well a bit of Q3 too, but mostly Q2.
If this game is going to be like UT2k4... I going to love it!
That sounds like a personal problem to me :)
