Alien Arena 2008 is a standalone game based off of the Quake II/III source that combines a classic sci-fi atmosphere with the tournament style deathmatch of Q3A and UT2k4. With major graphical enhancements such as hi-res 24/32 bit tga textures, light blooms, real time lights and shadows, per pixel lighting, stainmaps, textured particles, shaders, and reflective water, Alien Arena brings the Quake II engine into modern gaming. The game also includes mutators, adjustable effects, bot skill settings, and fully configurable deathmatch, team deathmatch, CTF, All Out Assault, Team Core Assault, Cattle Prod, and Deathball games.
The game features all original artwork, with player models in the 2000 poly range, hi-res textures, and trippy, techno type music. There are currently over 45 maps, loaded with weapons(each having an alternate firing mode) and powerups.
Alien Arena has fast, smooth gameplay with a high-tech atmosphere, and players can play online against one another or against the bots, which feature multiple skill levels, and will rocket jump, strafe jump, and taunt you mercilessly.

this game is good it look like unreal tournament but the first weapon is very bad you must change with the gatling which makes shotgun (it is better for a first weapon)
well in my opinion there wouldn't be much point in getting another weapon if the first weapon was the gatling gun except to have different guns for different situations. Also, you have 2 default weapons(though I believe back then there wasn't) the violator and the blaster. The violator is a pretty good starting weapon and the blaster is decent enough to survive until you find a better weapon around. Remember that the default weapon has unlimited ammo so it would be dull to kill everyone with 1-2 hits(with no armor) just by holding down the fire button.
Nobody in our community or dev team owns a Mac, so we have no way of doing it. A person had volunteered a few months ago and then never followed through. Basically our stance is regarding Mac is that it is not going to happen unless *somebody* who owns a Mac steps up to the plate and ports it. Otherwise, there is nothing we can really do.

yay someones making a free download arena shooter game with good graphics! Can't wait :D
Actually the balance is much better than alot of people starting out realize. Every weapon is useful, and has an alternate firing mode that makes it useful in other situations. In fact, aside from the base blaster, most of the weapons are pretty even in terms of usefulness.
I wish this was more balanced. It's got a really hard learning curve. It was featured at my last LAN party though! :D
