First of all, I would once again like to express my gratitude towards everyone over the years. Especially the fans. When I started working on 1187 I had little knowledge about making games. I ended up with something I am still proud of. Even if it's incredibly outdated and broken.
Which brings me to the 2nd topic. I am so sorry that the mod is not working. I tried to find ways to fix it myself but without the source code I just cannot get it fixed properly. And I feel very mixed about this. I want to go back end replay it myself. see all the stupid mistakes I made, the things I would cringe at if I would make the mod today.
So much has changed since then. I got married, have a little daughter who's on her way to the age of 3. I found a job in the games industry and I've moved to UE4. Gone are the days where I could just waste my time on source and hammer and make a mod. I wish I could, I want to do so much more with 1187 but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
I always promised I'd come back, and a part of me is clinging onto that promise. So I won't say that I won't get back to it. But the team has also moved on, everyone's got other things to do that are more important. I myself am working on my own little project that I'm super excited about and have Robert Ducat (John's character) on board.
I hope you guys understand how things change in life and I hope some of you will check out what I'm working out when the time comes. For now this is goodbye and thanks for all the support, I truly hope to see some of you at my other project that I will announce once the time comes.
I still get requests in my inbox about fixing the mod, it truly makes me feel that I did something right. I salute you, fellow gamers, modders, developers, humans. :)
Take care !!!
That's sad, well good luck with your future projects. :)
Not as sad as it seems. :) I'm more upset about the state of the mod. :(
I will always remember the creativity in this mod. good luck in the future!
Farewell, wishing you all the best for the future :)
Glad things are looking up! I appreciate the time and dedication in this mod.
I was not expecting this. I thought the devs forgot about this mod entirely. Cool to see that you haven't, even if you don't have time to fix it. Good luck on everything in the future.
You know, if you still want to play through the mod...I know an easy fix that will pretty much fix the mod entirely, at least from what I experienced. Let me know if you want to try it, and I'll post it here.
You know what, I'll just post it now. No reason to keep anyone waiting. Here's the fix:
-Download and extract the mod to steamapps/sourcemods like normal (make sure to keep a backup of the mod's main folder so that you have two of them.) DO NOT GET THE ROGUE TRAIN DLC. IT WILL BREAK THE SCRIPTS FOR THE MAIN CAMPAIGN.
-Download and install the GCFScape tool so that you can open VPK files.
-Go to steamapps/common/Half-Life 2/ep2 and open ep2_pak_dir.vpk.
-Extract the materials, models, particles, scripts and sound folders into steamapps/sourcemods/1187. Overwrite all files it asks for.
-Take the backup of the mod's main folder you kept, and extract it steamapps/sourcemods again. Overwrite all files it asks for.
Be warned: This fix takes up quite a bit of space.
To clarify about the Rogue Train DLC, it works fine and is completely playable by itself. However, it breaks the scripts of the main campaign. Basically, you need to sacrifice one in order to play the other. So if you want to play the DLC, MAKE SURE to keep a backup of the pre-DLC 1187 folder, or else you'll need to reinstall the mod entirely.
Wouldn't just edit the text file pointing to various Source package do the trick?
That doesn't seem to work on 1187 for some reason. You can try it if you want, but I could never get it to work.
I'm happy that you are doing great in real-life and that you are still caring. I hope for the best for your future endeavors!
Thanks for making a great mod. I really enjoyed it back when I played it.
Good luck to you and your family.
Ahh joure, my friends :D glad to see you here :D
Remember when you made first beta of 1187 and when I started Wilson Chronicles.. the time flies very fast.. Today we are in 2015 and it's a been a long time you and me have started the Modding.. like yesterday :D
Each time i hear about mods being broken, again, by one of valves updates i am sad. And although i understand why Valve is doing this i still think its a stupid way to behave, they really should think of another way to upgrade there engine because this is just to silly for words!
Shame to that you can't work on the original code anymore,
much success,
Leon
Well said sir...well said.
I already recorded gameplay of it until it crashed, and it looks ruined. I loved it before the SteamPipe update, really I did. Well, here's a link to my gameplay. Youtube.com
Good luck, old buddy!
Thank you all for the kind words, wish everyone of you the best of luck, go out there and make it happen... ;)
I have an idea.
Put it on GitHub and allow the people to fix it themselves and work on it.
Hey, maybe the community of people with time could make 1187 the mod you always wanted it to be.
