Twisted Insurrection
Community Award
"We love the community drive behind TI; from the unique posters and fan art to the team's longstanding dedication, we stand up to acknowledge this epic standalone Command & Conquer project."
Twisted Insurrection is a stand alone modification of Tiberian Sun, meaning you don't need to own Tiberian Sun to play. The mod features a completely new in-depth story-line which puts you in an alternate timeline where the Brotherhood of Nod were victorious during the first Tiberian War rather than GDI; After the Brotherhood used the Ion Cannon to destroy an irreplaceable monumental structure, the Global Defense initiative lost all UN support leaving them in total disarray. This is where our story begins. Read more...
GMDX
Worldly Award
"What if Ion Storm had continued to work on Deus Ex after its release? GMX intends to answer this with a feature-packed total conversion, fixing all the issues and injecting a polished modern feel. GMDX takes the worldly award for carefully refining the world of Dues Ex whilst keeping true to the original feel."
GMDX may very well be the closest answer. The goal is to expand upon the game whilst strictly staying true to the original design principles of Ion Storm.
Any developer could keep working on their game post-release in theory, further expanding and refining, but the nature of the game industry demands you move onto your next project. Read more...
Stargate Space Conflict
Visuality Award
"Stargate Space Conflict takes the Homeworld 2 engine to its breaking point. The sheer visual fidelity of the art assets--in an engine of this age--deserves recognition. With the mod just being released, you don't even have wait to see what all the fuss is about."
Stargate Space Conflict aims to recreate the universe of the Stargate franchise. Stargate Space Conflict is a total conversion for Homeworld2. Read more...
Double Action: Boogaloo
The Ressie Award
"A long time ago, there was a mod for Half-Life called the Specialists. If you never got a chance to enjoy the wall-flipping, round-house kicking experience, DA brings it all back with the feel turned up to 11!
For new players, putting it simply, it's like playing the ultimate action movie."
Double Action is about diving, flipping, and sliding your way into 90’s action movie-inspired multiplayer mayhem. The game is completely free (no hats!), runs on Valve’s Source engine, and has been in development for about 3 years. Read more...

Penumbra: Necrologue
Best Singleplayer
"Necrologue delivers an expansion-quality experience worthy of the Penumbra name. As the dark atmosphere and moody soundtrack draws you deep into the mod's unforgiving world, you will be forgiven for thinking you're actually playing Penumbra."
Penumbra: Necrologue is a continuation of the Penumbra series made by Frictional Games. The game starts right where the last game in the series ended (Penumbra: Requiem). In our game you will see new objects, quests, textures, monsters and music. With the help of the latest HPL engine, this mod will be even more beautiful then the previous games. As huge fans of the original games, we kept the atmosphere exactly like the previous parts. The game is very story-driven and contains many objects that can be interacted with, along with clever puzzle designs. Read more...

1st Place Double Action: Boogaloo
Half-Life 2 mod | Released Jul 14, 2014
"Double Action may be one of the last, great source mods to be released. In development for over 3 years, this spiritual successor to the Specialists offers fun engaging gunplay, flips, slides, kung-fu, and a choice of 1st or 3rd person gameplay with character customization to boot. With the next release in active development, we look forward to seeing this mod and community grow. It is truly worthy of 1st place and your time!"
In this developer post the developer covers* the development process.
I was visited by three ghosts. The first was The Ghost of Action Past, who showed me all the time I spent in my youth watching John Woo movies and playing The Specialists. It filled my heart with adrenaline. The second was The Ghost of Action Present, who showed me the downtrodden but stoically cheery people who are forced to play Double Action: Boogaloo while it's yet unfinished. The last was The Ghost of Action Future, who backflipped into a dive through a window and shot me nineteen times with his golden akimbo Berettas. It was rad. That's when I woke up from my dream, put aside my old Dickens novel and decided to ship Double Action: Boogaloo.
Double Action is about diving, flipping, and sliding your way into 90’s action movie-inspired multiplayer mayhem. The game is completely free (no hats!), runs on Valve’s Source engine, and has been in development for about 3 years. Read more...
We would also like to take this moment to list a few honorable mentions.
No More Room in Hell - S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Lost Alpha - Fistful of Frags - Crossfire 2.0 - Homeworld 2 Complex - Sins of a Galactic Empire - Renegade X - First Strike - Forgotton Hope 2 - Open RA
That wraps up the 2014 Editors choice, next up top upcoming mods and the grand finale, Player Choice 2014!
Wow you know i'm really getting tired of a Star Wars Empire at War:Forces of corruption mod not making this list. Republic at Wars doesn't count cause it had it's time.
Also why is Double Action: Boogaloo on there twice as number 1 and then farther up that doesn't seem far to have it twice.
LOl i just noticed i said Far LOL i meant fair.
You do know you can edit your comments.
Battle Royale, for instance, is not a Mod. It's a mission / MP Gamemode.
Things get ugly when people misunderstood these terms.
Battle Royale is a mod.
Its a mod that consists mainly of 3rd party mods.
Congrats to all mods. It's amazing to see a Stargate mod making the list <3
Congratulations, Twisted Insurrection!
Thank you all so much, this is amazing!
Why is double action boogaloo on there twice? I hear its a great mod but I don't think its quite fair to other mods to put it on there twice specially when there are other great mods out there
This is editors choice, we try to pick a diverse range of mods though admittedly should be spreading the love rather than focusing on a few. Interested to hear what are your and everyone elses picks?
Toss some love to Tiberium Essence. It's, to my knowledge, a one-man team and has sufficient quality to be it's own thing. Now if Carnius made an RTS from scratch...
How about Star Trek Armada 3: A Call to Arms
No Underhell? :/
Yeah, I'm just as stumped. Underhell is my favorite mod of all time, it has a great story and the combat is superb. Heck I would even go as far as to say it had more work put into it than most of these other mods in the list (aside from Penumbra: Necrologue being pretty cool as well).
In Underhell you gotta eat, sneak, and use band-aids to survive. Or you can gun your way through for a bit... Til you run out of ammo.
It was there last year.
But Underhell was last year
Well deserved for DAB, a really nice packed amount of fun !
And im happy to see Lambda wars around the corner too !
Congratulations everyone :D
I see a couple of projects I didn't know of that i'll need to try out
And its good to see Deus Ex Revision there, I voted for that ;) lol
great pick and nominees. They all deserved.
Isn't there a conflict of interest with the Stargate mod given that one of the ModDB staff works on it?
Yeah i noticed that kinda odd and not fair, they are breaking their own rules. i also find it not fair that a mod can get 2 spots on here when 100 mods were in the top 100 and there are 13 mods on the list above 12 if you count Double Action: Boogaloo on there twice as 1.
I think if you are going to do your editor choice you need to give every mod a chance and look at them and not add 1 mod twice i didn't see that happen on Indie of the Year.
And I think that if a mod is the best one in two or more categories, it should get that recognition. Awards are not about giving the nominees some kind of fairly distributed exposure boost, they are about highlighting those nominees that are actually the best.
YES! Penumbra: Necrologue and Double Action made it! I love both of them! And DA is #1? Awesome!
Congratulations to the other mods that made it, too!
(buried)
Where the hell is Misery?
Proud of you guys! :D
Amazing mods..
If only the Gunslinger mod for Stalker COP was on here as it would easily be amongst the top 3 just for the sheer amount of realism and visual quality it has :P
I mean just look at it and its still WIP

Youtube.com
just a few examples
That’s true but I don’t think it would stay here too long because it has some things from other mods (for example ak74su from PR).
that one is still a place holder I believe the guy hasn't messed with the rifles all that much just pistols, grenades, and items so far. Tho I cant wait to see what he will do with them.
I am watching that mod for over eight months so I know about a few things. I don’t think that he have permission from Call of duty Black ops 2, COD Ghost, Battlefield 4 (only sounds I think), Project Reality Developers and so on.
On the other hand I must say it looks amazing and with those animations is a number one S.T.A.L.K.E.R. mod for me.
Well deserved recognition for this awesome mod! Good job by all involved!
Awesome
Disapointed with list though
I think Perisno should of won most creative if it were to be a Warband mod, they invented a fantasy universe entirely from scratch instead of injecting warhammer into Mount and Blade. In fact, how a mod that is based on a pre-existing fantasy universe wins most creative at all is beyond me. Warsword is a great mod, but it's in the wrong category.
But what do I know....
Glad to see my team (No More Room in Hell) got an Honorable Mention!
Thank you all and a big congratulations to all the other mods that made the list!
YAY WARSWORD CONQUEST MADE IT!!!!
Congrats DAB, Playing it brings me a lot of bad memories.. But anyways im happy that they make it to the 1st place
It's ok mods but I'm getting sick of some of them
There is actually a Warband mod on this list. And its noe laigle of perisno. Great!
Best overhaul, nice! Congrats all.
I knew Boogaloo was going to get it!!! Man I need to get Half Life soon, I'm missing out on a lot of great mods. Mad Brutal DooM V1.19 wasn't on here though.
BD won an Editor's Choice Award on 2012. It can't win two awards.
If it's not Underhell, I see it as a lie.
