These localizations are optimized for regular players, who like simplified text. The localization edits have been made by myself from scratch using the default Battlefield 2 localization files, patched to the latest 1.5 patch (so there are no missing entries like what I have sadly found in SaladForks' work ... ).
Introduction:
First off the ReadMe file is inspired by TehMyke's work with his Pro Barebone Localization files (which you can find at tehmyke.com), and the localization edits themselves are inspired by SaladForks' localization files.
These localizations are optimized for regular players, who like simplified text.
Changes include:
- easier to tell apart real chat from automatic game chatter,
- important game events stand out much better,
- everything is shorter and more to the point.

Installation:
- Go to: %install path%\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Localization\english\
where %install path% is usually C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\
- note: for Special Forces you don't have to do anything, the
expansion pack will use the vanilla BF2 localization files.
- Backup all files in this folder, in case you want to go back to default.
- note: don't place your backup files in this folder or else the game
will still use your default files and mine will have no effect.
- Delete/move all the files in the "localization\english" folder in step 1, for
example you can cut and paste them elsewhere in a new, separate backup folder.
- Paste all the .utxt files (7 in total) inside the "localization\english" folder.
- Play!
- note: for Special Forces leave the 3 default .utxt files that can be found in the
"xpack\Localization\english\" folder; the missing .utxt files will be taken
from the regular "bf2\Localization\english\" folder that you just edited.
Removal:
- Go to: %install path%\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Localization\english\
where %install path% is usually C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\
- Delete all the .utxt files (or move them elsewhere if you have edited them further).
- Place your backed up default localizations back in the folder.
- Play!
You also could change weapon used color (§C1001). Example:
HUD_HUD_KILLEDBY_KILLS §0#PLAYERNAME1# §C1001[§1#WEAPON#§0]§C1001 #PLAYERNAME2#
For chat spam, you could edit common_server VoiceMessages files (better solution for me), also you can delete the sound for empty spot.
On my mod (EUWIN) for bf2 you can find all this settings and more.
Sorry for my bad English
Hello euwinpro and thank-you for commenting. I am aware of the colors but I didn't want to tweak the localization files further: this is the bare minimum.
I'm not sure how to edit the common_server.zip file that you mentioned and I am also not quite sure you would be allowed to do that (because we play normal BF2, not with modified content).
I guess the same would apply to deleting the sound for the empty spots. In any way, thank you very much for commenting and no worries about your English.
How about server side modding? I'm not sure, but I think you can modify "common_server.zip" for the server side only and everyone can play normally (with not modified content for client).
You can check my custom "common_server.zip" on my mod. For exeample, compare my "VoiceMessages_PlayerTriggered.con" file with the vanilla version.
S_h_a_r_k_93 thanks for sharing
You're welcome, my pleasure.
Hello. I have my own localization too. It's more simplified. Check it in my profile.
I had already tried your customization files but I believe they are indeed even less complex than mine are.
Perhaps - if I remember correctly - they just have colored killed/killed by messages with no points and colored weapon names in the kill feed.
In any way, thank you for your comment, long time no see Reanimator[UA] !!!
Well, no, there are way more changes. I think that was some very early version that you're speaking about.
You're welcome, nice to see you here!
