The reviews speak for themselves so if you haven't played the mod, now is the time to check out this part of source history. You will need the Source 2006 SDK
Give'emthesleeper! wrote: One of the most visceral, cerebral shooters around; add that kind of gameplay depth to an atmosphere that is clearly inspired by Ghost in the Shell, and you have one hell of a shooter. I've been playing Neotokyo for years. Thus, finally seeing it on Steam is extremely exciting, if for nothing else than because this gem of a game will be experienced by a larger, wider audience. And truth be told, this is the kind of title that -needs- to be played by many. Simply put, it's just damn good, and unlike most other FPS games on the market.
Its got a rocking soundtrack, tune is as it downloads.
Check out this hint guide to help you get started.

No, he's right.
The music and the graphics are so ******* amazingly well done, and it's sad to see it all be put together to what amounts to little more than CS with a CTF mode.
Whenever I see the first trailer, I always find myself imagining what great things that world could have been used for.
I hope the talented people behind this mod at some point realize what huge potential they sit on, and make a game worthy of it.
If you like the setting but are looking for a different gameplay experience then you should check out dystopia.
Take a throat lozenge both of you, and NeoTokyo at least changes the formula up to make it interesting, vs Counter-strike's dogmatic approach of "Lets remake the same thing over and over, with out adding anything new". And if nothing else NT has a way better soundtrack.
Fairly sure they do that because they know that the counter-strike player-base plays counter strike for counter strike. Only thing they can do without ticking them off is better the graphics and UI a bit. Maybe even change the weapon skins up a lil' bit.
How about adding... Left Lean? =D
Those were the days man. That was the most OP thing to date on release.
You can say all you want about how much potential you think the mod has for more right now, what's there has been tweaked over and over year after year and that single gamemode is balanced basically perfectly now. The guns while they don't display stats you can get a good idea of how they'll feel from the look, they all feel different and different tactics and strategies can always arise. One good player on any class can save an entire team if he's doing it right and bad players can always learn.
Must Hold on to Dem Titties.

Yey.
It's great that NEOTOKYO° is finally on Steam, it will help maintain its community for years to come. :)
YAY, does this mean I don't have to play on European servers anymore?
The game is still lacking players, maybe it has (Significantly?) more than what it had before Steam, but there's only a few servers with players. And most of the time, they're full lol :\ Great mod though! :D
I don't get it. I've had NeoTokyo on steam for over a year.
I liked this game back when there were players, then the players went away. :(
This is why competitive games need bots.
Won't steam release fix that issue though?

It is so awesome that people just like to get asshurt on horrible comment. Thanks for attention.
Mod looks awesome. I'm gonna download it when i have time :)
Conglaturations
Are there any changes or fixes? So this is now a fully Steam delivered MOD?
I'm shocked to learn people still play this. Given that in four years the mod was only updated once (and only three times _ever_), I figured it was dead in the water.
dangit; was just watching GiT Arise 3, and imagining myself playing NeoTokyo the whole time.
I imagine few will be emotional about this song too: Youtube.com
Congrats guys, thats awesome news.
NEOTOYKO's soundtrack has always been good. Glad to read this news post now I can listen to it again.
Just another online shooter. Nothing special.
Your half right, it is a online shooter..., its special because its free and was made for free by a bunch of devs that wanted people to enjoy something different... also it seems to contain the source code so others can expand development. That's special.
It's just like Counter Strike or Battlefield.
What's difference?
Its free?
Any chance for a Linux release?
There's quite a few more servers up now, the bugfix was deployed.
Good! Im going to play it once in a while. How did you manage to persuade valve to release despite not updating it to source 2013?
@addi_b: linux support only with source version 2013. So no linux support. NT is still on 2006.
This game, at its core, is really just Counter Strike with added bells and whistles.
Bells and whistles which change everything. Tactics, combat dynamics and team work are completely different. Which makes it also feel completely different. It is different.
By the gods, I have waited for so long for Neotokyo to be released on Steam! Damn happy right now.
NeoTokyo, Insurgency, Zombie Master, and Zombie Panic Source were the pinnacles of multiplayer mods back in 08. They all contributed really damn unique dynamics that pulls you into the game.
I'm really damn happy that NeoTokyo is coming back. I really hope that it stays active this time.
Nice to see it's set up on Steam
