Portal: Prelude, as its name implies, is an unofficial prequel to the game Portal. Its story revolves around the pre-GlaDOS epoch way before she was plugged in. Back then, test subjects were still monitored by real Aperture Science employees, a tedious, dull, and repetitive job. One of the reasons why they decided to build a great artificial intelligence that could both replace them for these complex tasks and also take responsibility for many other functions within the complex while competing with Black Mesa's superiority. All employees of the Aperture Science complex are now eagerly awaiting GlaDOS. A little too eagerly maybe, as the unfolding events will tell... This game is totally free. It offers a bit more gameplay hours than the original Portal, with 8 chapters, 19 test chambers, 48 challenges, 6 advanced maps, a brand new storyline and more than 400 lines of English dialogue with dozens of subtitles languages.

Hey gamers, Nicolas here.
Can you believe that Portal: Prelude 1.0.0 was released in October 2008? Turns out, it's 2023 now, so that was 15 years ago, or 29 if you count the pandemic. Yet, somehow, I've been coaxed into releasing one last version that includes all of the patches and fixes added over these years to keep this mod playable in the face of an ever-changing Steam platform. I'm deeply grateful to the community and the players that still message me relentlessly after all this time, whether it's to praise the mod, provide ideas or feedback (quite late), ask me whether I'm working on a remaster or whether they should work on a remaster (spoiler alert: no), or less kind messages altogether of course. It is... after all... the Internet.
I hope this version works for you so that I never have to look down the barrel of a 1.2.1 patch (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
As usual, let me know if you have any feedback at <nicolas@portalprelude.com>

Extract the entire 'portal prelude' folder in your 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods' folder (or wherever you keep your Steam library these days). If the 'sourcemods' folder does not exist, just create it. Restart Steam. The mod should appear in your library under 'Portal: Prelude'.

Portal: Prelude 1.0.0 (released 2008-10-10)
* Initial release
No way
One of the best Portal mods got an update?! Yes, please! :D
I've been surprisingly involved in some amount of modding recently and thought I'd make a small detour in the wasteland of compatibility that you guys have been facing with Portal: Prelude the last few years, between all the changes to Steam and the Source engine. Let me know if you spot any issue.
What text-to-speech programs did you use for the voice acting
Do you mean what software I used 15 years ago when this was released? Probably something that doesn't exist anymore. Today, Google exposes a Text-to-Speech AI that is quite good: Cloud.google.com
Yes, what text-to-speech software did you use for the voice acting? Oh, and do you plan on replacing the text-to-speech with real voice actors?
Found it: Acapela-box.com
Odds are some of you in more recent times have also heard the TTS voices used in a few memes.
Some of the scientists voice lines are silent...
That's on purpose to remove some offensive lines that were less of a concern in 2008.
also the library icon doesn't show..
Should be fixed in the 1.2.1 version: Moddb.com
What a pleasant surprise!
I can't wait for an RTX Remaster of Portal: Prelude.
There already is one:
Moddb.com
No, like, the official one.
I already know a fanmade one exists.
All the npc's eyes look blackened..
lets go i might finally be able to watch the credits this time :D
Nope. I tried. THe credits still crash..
Should be fixed in the 1.2.1 version: Moddb.com
Hi, I'm running this mod without steam but I have SDK 2013.
I tried to run it but it gives gameinfo error.
If I somehow manage to run it (by renaming folder to "portalprelude" , the mod works but the chapter names are glitched.
So I have a request, can you make mod folder name to a single word instead to two words, like I mentioned above?
Thanks.
Btw, amazing mod, I loved it !
Sorry, not a supported setup. Use Steam and Portal.
If I want to fix the chapter names, what files should I edit?
