COUNTDOWN TO DESTRUCTION OUT NOW!

I worked on some Lake Mead and Hoover Dam levels when I was working with Mighty Foot Productions, it was never meant to be in the final game but helped me learn DukeED very well.

So I thought I may as well release it for people to have fun with!

Use the cheat menu to load up on weapons and ammo!

Just download the latest build of the Duke Nukem Forever 2001 leak (linked below), nicely updated and cared for by the community, and then copy the Maps and Music folders from Countdown to Destruction into where you have your 2001 build located.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Download 2001 Build (Link Below)

Duke Nukem Forever 2001: Restored Leak Build Project v0.2 - DOWNLOAD HERE

2. Download Countdown to Destruction (Link Below)

Duke Nukem Forever 2001: Countdown to Destruction - DOWNLOAD HERE

3. Copy Maps and Music folder from Countdown to Destruction into the same folder locations of the 2001 Build

4. Overwrite all 3 Maps it Asks to Overwrite (It won't overwrite any Music)

5. Launch the 2001 Build via DukeForever.exe in the System Folder

6. Select "This Is Not A Boating Accident - Lake Mead" in the Chapter Select and Enjoy! (3 Levels total eventually the final part of the first Hoover Dam chunk is not completed)

You can run these updated maps on the very original build or any other 2001 build out there, but performance will be low due to the optimizations made since by the community if using the original 2001 leak.

Enjoy some screenshots below!

Thank you to meowsandstuff for the music tracks! And to Mighty Foot Productions for their amazing regular upkeep of this amazing treasure of a leak build!

Will Duke Nukem Forever 2001 be ported to android once it's fully completed?

TBH I am not sure when this game will have a proper release and be actually playable in a official release, let alone a android release, but heres to hoping this will get the best treatment one day from a ambitious developer.

The saddest cancellation in the gaming history ever, yes "cancellation" because I don't count the 2011 release as the real Duke Nukem Forever.

The version that's being developed from 2001 to 2003 had the potential to be an unforgettable game of the year. It had so many cool, impressive and imaginative features for the time. With the leak the modders can polish it up to a degree but in the end it doesn't change the fact that we missed out an official, classic Duke release that will never come back.

We didn't want the best game ever George, just a solid Duke game, know when to fold 'em.

All that said, I have a pipe-dream: Since the interest in these older FPS games have seeminly been re-ignited with many pretty good releases emulating those 90's classics released, maybe this game can be reworked and can finally officially released? It would be much cheaper to work on when compared to any big release of 2023 that's for sure.

That's the crazy part about all this. He kept pushing for the "perfect game" to the point where they lost the rights to Duke Nukem to Gearbox. It's an unobtainable goal because technology keeps moving forward. What wasn't possible 30 years ago is standard today. I can play Duke Nukem 3D maps that wouldn't have been possible on a computer in 1996 on my phone now. Make a solid game, release the game, make the next one better with the money you made from the last one.

Currently, the game is crashing on start up saying the debugger is not working or something along the lines of that. It was working previously which makes me wonder if placing the patch in the 2.0 folder had anything to do with it. Does anybody know how to fix it?

Yes that's likely why it's not working. You need to make a fresh new install

Can anyone help me? I'm trying to run this on Windows 11 but no matter, the game just boots to a black screen with music playing. I tried everything, the guides i've found do (Ie install the megapatch, the d3d8 wrapper, etc) but nothing seems to work and I'm starting to wonder if I missed anything.

UPDATE: It was the d3d8 wrapper that was include that was messing things up for me- I had to use a different one and finally I could boot into the menu. Seems promising.
