MTW2, SSHIP new version from August 2023; Many updates - Fixes, Scripts, Buildings, Units etc.
What's new in this version:
UNITS' RECRUITMENT
- additional recruitment pools for Knights for the AI factions cut down. As a result, a player should discern that the AI fields fewer such units.
- recruitment slot added to the unique military buildings (Narikala, White Tower), while the number of slots from the core buildings (walls, castles) is lowered (second time the same fix for the same trap we've fallen in the past... ugh). The new Var building provides an additional slot.
- 'Ruthenian archers' are now available in the Rus lands (while Hunters are removed from there - I'm not sure it's a good solution, maybe the Hunters should be the base unit, the Ruthenian a better one?) for all factions, with Rus and Lithuanian factions having additional pools' increases.
- recruitment for Rus factions in the castle barracks re-coded.
- some updates for the recruitment provided by the unique buildings (additional recruitment pools: this should result in your capital providing you much more units than the other cities).
recruitment of the Georgian castle barracks reviewed, with the pools' refill lowered significantly, and crossbow units available mainly outside Georgia.
- adjustments of the Byzantine recruitment of the crossbow units (much fewer in Byzantium, Armenia and Georgia, none in the Middle East, while more elsewhere).
- adjustments to the city barracs of Byzantium and Georgia, with Scutatoi units added to Constantinople.

EVENTS & SCRIPTS
- AI and diplomacy adjustments - ongoing work as usual.
- Bedouin invasions - added 6 lacking settlements (for the total of 28), added recruitment pools' depletion after an invasions, warning infos for the player will work, description of how does it work added.
- Catalan invasions - added 4 settlements (for the total of 19).
- the Prussian raids - in 5 player's provinces, plus a 'settlement rebels' system in Twangste.
- some changes to the anti-hoarding mechanism (ie money), also to the texts explaining what's happening.
- quite significant re-coding of the Military Orders (perhaps for the first time from the v.092) - the mechanisms should work now, the requirements are now more-or-less reasonable, there're fall-back triggers etc.
- England evolution: events re-coded from being in the historical events file into the script, which will enable making them soon conditional on something the player does.
- Hungary evolution: events re-coded from being in the historical events file into the script, a few new added, also new conditions and consequences introduced.

MAP
- slight modification of borders in South England, in Auvergne, next to Lyon, in Russia.
- significant modification of province borders in the Zagros mountains, a river flowing from the north deleted to make the pass passable, a ford added: now there's a road from Hamadan south to Wasit, and also from Hamadan west to Baghdad.
- settlements moved: Nurnberg (slightly north), Firenze (slightly south-east), Kernave (slightly north-east), Pereyaslav (quite much to the east, also the ford has been moved), Riga (a bit to the east, to be on the river), Hamadan (a bit to the west);
- some resources moved around, silver in the Tatra Mts. added.
- settlement of Valladolid moved to became Salamanca, the borders around modified, also names of the provinces adjusted.
- remake of the Serbia region: settlement of Nis moved to became Belograd, settlement of Ras moved as well with much modifications to the borders.
- some changes of placement of resources in those modified regions.
BUILDINGS
- Var building - regional building for Hungary, 9 levels.
- debuff to the population growth AI bonuses at lower level of the settlements to prevent the phenomenon of the AI upgrad settlements too fast. First observations tell that it works - you still see large towns in the 13th century, not only large cities and citadels.
- costs, building times, and upkeep prices of many buildings adjusted (in particular: for the upper levels of settlements the costs increased, while the building times decreased).

I just meet this mod today and I see there is a recent new version, launched yesteday! Downloading now!

so far the mod is running smoothly, no crashes. Playing the Byzantines and as far as gameplay is concerned its smooth and no issues as of the moment. but I have noticed that the Royal ladies have yet to spawn. the last version normally pops out around turn 70 or so. until now I don't see any notification. I may have to wait until turn 100 or is there something wrong about it?
the noble ladies will appear, it is true that in this version we lowered a little bit of their number..
Already reached turn 110 and running smoothly. events are popping out and no crashes yet, I saw some royal ladies in some other factions but not on my faction. I am playing the Byzantines currently. is there something wrong or should I wait a bit further?

Do you need the August version to play or it don’t matter which version of the 0.98
You don’t need a previous version, but read please the installation guide, it will save you some potential headache. Also the August version has many bug fixes, doesn’t make sense to use the previous versions..

It will happen, the orders appear when it their historical time.
Such an amazing mod I absolutely loved it, I also like the way we are forced to expand slowly and develop city much slower pace.

I would like to report battle bug, there seem to be funny battle deployment on the hill between Antioch and Tripoli. Your unit spawn on top of a hill which you cannot move around. And there seem to be constant crash near Crimea.
I would like to know: when deleting an older version (0.98 June 2023) of SSHIP to install a newer one, is it enough to simply delete the SSHIP file in Medieval 2/mods or is there anything else to do?
And also I absolutely love your mod: the new appearances of the units are beautifull und look very authentic, its also nice being forced to use all available units. So I learnded to love mounted and foot javelin troops.
Yes, you just delete the old SSHIP folder and install a new one. Happy you enjoy it!

Getting the "SSHIP installed in wrong folder"-error. Could it be because the folder-path that ends up in my mod-folder, after I followed instructions to the letter, looks like this:
"mods" > "SHIP_098_August_2023" > "SSHIP_098"
intead of this:
"mods" > "SSHIP_098"
?

Yea thought so, I fixed that. Still getting the error, or rather:
If I launch the game as admin, I get the error.
If I just double click the launcher, the game starts. I can start and load campaign, but whenever I do something like ending turn or quick-saving, the game crashes...
It’s all in the installation instruction, try to read and follow it exactly, it should work.

I can see on this file it says "Extract and put the SSHIP_098"-folder in "Mods. Not trying to be cheeky, but every other install-instruction for this mod says to just unpack the whole downloaded zip-file directly into "Mods", so that is a bit counter-intuitive :)
So now I simply moved "SSHIP_098" out of "SSHIP_098_August_2023" and into "Mods", then deleted the empty "SSHIP_098_August_2023"-folder.
This is when I still get the "Wrong folder-error" when I launch as admin, and when I simply double-click the launcher the game starts but crashes in campaign very quickly on turn 1.
Should I instead have deleted the whole mod from my "Mods"-folder, then extracted the Zip again, externally this time, and moved that new "SSHIP_098" into "Mods"?
I don't know if this should make any difference, but moving large folders in-and-out of other folders like I have done might corrupt the files? Or the launcher doesn't fully realize that the files are now in the correct place or something?
As the instruction says:
Just place unpacked SSHIP098 folder inside -> \...\Medieval II Total War\mods.
Whichever you want to do first unpack and move or move and unpack, doesn’t matter. If your comp is working properly it will not corrupt any files. I don’t know how to explain it better, if you want contact us at twcenter

When downloading it doesn't download a zipped file only a single file that is only read-me. Idk if I am downloading it incorrectly or not
The file has extension .7z which may be extracted with 7zip program, and it's just one file 3.2 GB size.
Good morning... congratulations for the mod ... But I have a problem: in case of siege to a city, if I choose to fight on the battlefield and load, I get error and the game crashes ... I've tried multiple factions and the same crashes in case of siege.... I hope there is a solution... Hello
Probably you need to apply LAA - Large Address Awareness, its a program that allows using more memory for the old games. Details are in the installation instruction.

It's very simple:
1. Unpack the SSHIP file and copy into 'mods' folder so you have something like this:
C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\mods\SSHIP_098
2. to apply LAA you just execute the file that is in the SSHIP_098 folder and choose the path to medieval.exe and kingdom.exe which are in the folder above, in my case it is C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War

Hi,I have the version of the game on disc and not downloaded through steam. For this reason the installation goes automatically in program (86) but I read that this is not good. For this reason I copied SEGA out of program (86) or in "C". Maybe that's why LAA reads me the opening files of S.S.H.I.P. and can't find medieval.exe or kingdoms.exe. Then I installed S.S.H.I.P. in MOD folder as indicated and it only works that it crashes in case of siege with choice of battle in the field. I feel that the solution is possible. thanks for the reply
I watched the video of the installation.. (I understand little English and I go to intuition) ... The video makes references to the kingdom.ex file and I see that maybe it does a copy and paste on the file S.S.H.I.P.098launcher but I'm not sure. I did not do this. The game however starts and works with the sship launcher. Maybe that's the problem? Also when should you click on map and bin file cleaner? Thank you
in the txt file LAA I read this :IMPORTANT - PLEASE ACTION
1) Click on the '...' box
2) Navigate to your Medieval 2 install path and double click on the 'medieval2.exe' file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\medieval2.exe (It may just be called 'medieval2' but this is the same file.)
3) Make sure the checkbox is ticked
4) Click 'Save'
5) Close the program
But is there a patch to install? And what is it?
A path, not patch.. You need to click on the box with '...' on the right and choose the PATH to the executable files (.exe). They are always two steps above the SSHIP_098 folder. First you go up one level to 'mod' folder and then again to MTW2 folder that contains the exe files. Click on map and bin cleaner before you start a new campaign for the first time.
hello. i open LAA and I followed the directions I think correctly that I go back on MTW folder and double click on medieval2 or kingdoms file, then click (flag) checkbox and flag on save. However, the game crashes anyway if I play the siege. Perhaps that is not the problem. I also noticed that opening LAA there is MODE basic, intermediate and advanced; then there is OPTIONS and finally you can have 3 steps and I save only 1.I do not know what it is and if I'm still wrong. Hmm, difficult to say what may be the problem, does your vanilla mtw2 work well with battles and sieges? What happens if you lower to minimum the graphic details ? Does it help ?
Hi, thanks for the answers and for your time. You play vanilla and also with other mods everything works well even sieges. I have a good computer and decent video card. Never had any problems. But is installing LAA file indispensable for everyone? I am beginning to think that this is not the problem. I will try to delete the mod and reinstall again. sorry, the mod is very nice...
