Just tried it, loving everything about the update! Is it at all possible to make it so the Barney and Scientist NPC's can follow you anywhere you go? I get it's Gldsrc and very limited but having the AI be able to jump where you can jump and crawl where you crawl would be amazing for bringing your allies through the game.
You'd also steal my heart if you got the Alpha ladder climbing animations in or something along those lines.
Game ******* crashes every time I quick-save. Anyone have a similar issue?
Scratch that, I can't save at all. Every time I try it, it crashes. Good though.
NEVERMIND. It simply crashes on EVERYTHING I do! Quick-save? Crash. Manual save? Crash. Kick a scientist's corpse? CRASH!

Absolutely fantastic. But yes, like Captain_Hell_Knight is saying. It's guaranteed to crash once you arrive at the Office Complex chapter, and even after that segment.
Once it becomes a stable release, I'll be more than glad to finish the entire campaign using this mod!
Hey, have you tried playing on Xash3D? It fixed a lot of bugs and crashes for me, almost all of them. Someone here recommended it, if I remember correctly. Gotta spread the word!
Crashes at Office Complex (like others have said) with this message:
Cache_UnlinkLRU: NULL
Try disabling VSync and use the default controls. Changing either one of these things is whats causing the error for many people. Even changing your controls might be causing it.

Just started playing this mod, and i have a few problems with it.
Not a big fan of the pistol, it's so inaccurate without ADS.
What's up with the shotgun?! For some reason I keep missing whenever I shoot enemies at point blank range...
Other than those complaints, the mod is pretty damn enjoyable so far. Love the new added weapons, but the BFG should get buffed more IMO.
Anyone else get mouse accel they can't disable when using the mod?

This mod... oh man, great work! Original HL levels but with some more action, first levels from older FPS games (Doom I/II, Quake I/II), being able to kick, punch, wield 2 handguns at once... Epic! But, it's quite unstable (yeah, I know that it's still in beta, but...). Most of the times it crashed when:
- Passing through autosave triggers (sometimes it doesn't crash)
- Saving manually (in-the-menu save and quicksave, crashes often)
- Gibbing corpses (too many entities, I guess)
Sometimes it even crashes when I kill a zombie (not sure about other monsters though), says something about a null string. Almost all of those problems were solved by playing using Xash3D, someone in the comments recommended it, if I remember correctly.
Also sometimes hitscan does something stupid (or maybe it's hitboxes) and shooting at enemies doesn't do anything.
Would be nice if you fixed those bugs, and maybe added a few new things (weapons, features etc.). But even right now it looks like a finished modification!

You're really transforming this cult classic into it's own cult-classic.
Although inevitably the more you add to it the more unstable it gets it seems. I would suggest officially switching to the newer Xash3D (effectively a rebuilt GoldSRC to my knowledge), but I'm not sure if it would be any more stable.
My eyes grew big the first few minutes at how much changed.
I do like the idea of going through Half Life without the suit, and the fact that the viewmodels can reflect that is neat; it would be nice to have a health display though --- inability to use batteries or armor, but still be able to check your health. OR alternatively, integrate Blue Shift's mechanic alongside, and have Guard Vests lying about, usable to people not using the suit but thats a stretch.
I have a personal preference with the shotgun, one thing I liked about that Half Life 1 shotgun compared to the Half Life 2 shotgun, is that slow dramatic reload, make each shot count. Here its a bit of a "boingboingboing done" deal like in Half Life 2. The more powerful a weapon the more dramatic its reload should be, it builds anticipation.
Blaring Bugs I've found excluding crashes:
• Sometimes holding the alt fire on the crowbar freezes it into charging positio -- you can't actually attack with it again until you change weapons.
• Half Life's famous "Walk 2 feet before dying" glitch is in overdrive here, I didn't make it past unforseen consequences before I had 3 gibbed Houndeye's running around before they finally dropped dead. Some were able to still attack.
• I said I would exclude crashes but this one seems weapon related: The Dual Wield SMG's, when carrying them without the suit and you don't have enough ammo for them when you press reload, it will crash the game without dialogue.
• I don't know if this is intentional or not but all the Barneys use Hazard Course dialogue when asking them to follow.
• The computer falling in the server room when you climb through the vent from the lobby creates a solid gib (or it may be the headcrab gib) that kills you from any health no matter what. This glitch was also present in the first release.
• Some particles are obscenely expensive even by Half Life sprite standards. Notably the BFG.
• Several NPCs are disappearing between level changes.
• Some doors are getting stuck, probably on gibs.
As for crashes, the most common is a handled engine crash.

Oh also, very humorously, I can't imagine why, but sometimes the cockroaches have a floating Barney head and a gun... its a bizarre sight. Imgur.com

Anyone know how to get the pistol silencer without using impulse 101 ?
Also is there a way to reduce maximum gib count ? Sometime there's too many of them it lag the game

how the heck do i install this? (yes I've read the "read me" and followed those instructions)
if you have the problem where you install it and it keeps running normal half life what worked for me was going into the properties tab FROM STEAM and typing in -console -game bhl_beta2 and then running the game as normal, then clicking on the option on the lower left of the screen that says "change game". Might work for you but idk the installation is pretty weird with this mod.
I haven't played Beta 2 but I would like to point some of the technical points mentioned in the comments:
- The load/save crash might be caused by an incomplete and/or corrupted save/table in an entity. I can't confirm this right now but this would likely be the cause.
- "Cache_UnlinkLRU: NULL" is a crash in the engine. IIRC, whenever the client and/or seever try to grab a pointer to a model/sprite, it expects a pointer to a sprite structure within a cache system. Only Valve can fix this problem by securing the access or removing the cache system. That maybe would also explain why Xash3D is not impacted but Steam GoldSrc is.

I love this mod ! I wanted to try it a while ago but never had the chance. Top mod but for some reason the bullet holes started showing up as giant squares like a black window on the wall.. I'm pretty sure this happened once when I used to play HL1 and it was an easy fix but I haven't had a computer to access my steam games for years and I've forgotten a lot of stuff :/
Can anyone help? I've tried reinstalling Half life and the mod. Would be cool if anyone could help :)

maybe half of these will go into beta 3.
I have a bug where most of the textures I see in the game are broken and are just a grey base texture with nothing to it. Is there any fix to this?
And before you say anything, yes I did try reinstalling re-adding basicly doing all the "basic" things that would usually work.
While this all probably won't be implemented into the mod any time soon, will there ever be Half-Life: Opposing Force and Blue Shift content, like enemies, weapons, maps, and allies being planned to be put into the mod? Or will this all be divided into two specific brutal mods? Either way, that'll be amazing on paper. 😉
I may not be one of the devs, but I'm 90% sure that will happen if BHL keeps being worked on, which, according to the animator's stuff on Gamebanana, it is.
