A taster of what might follow, these two scenarios let you dominate some battlefields of the Syrian Civil War in full 3D. Take the role of a general for the Syrian government forces or the rebels, in both cases opposing computer-controlled forces from ISIS and al-Nusra as well as one another.
Kuweires Airbase
This mission recreates (somewhat overdramatically) a frantic 2015 relief effort aimed at reconnecting with the besieged Kuweires Airbase, where Air Force cadets remain surrounded by ISIS even as the Battle of Aleppo rages in the distance.
Detect and destroy suicide trucks packed with explosives (SVBIEDs), order sappers to find devastating IEDs before your tanks can run over them and be blown to bits, and watch for sneak attacks.
ISIS are also not going to refrain from using brute force in this mission, and have accumulated lots of conventional artillery and reinforcements from Iraqi arsenals to take on government forces directly.
Eastern Ghouta
The 2013-18 Siege of Eastern Ghouta is a time of desperation under government encirclement and tragic infighting among rebels, with extremists discovering heresy and turning against their own troops even as Syrian regular forces advance on the area of Damascus called Douma in vicious urban combat. Too weak and divided to face the government, your forces will have to focus exclusively on removing the extremists from their positions while mounting a desperate urban defense against the government troops at your back.
The Syrian rebels differ from ISIS in that they don't have much artillery firepower, but they have makeshift mortars called hell cannons.
Next up
Come back tomorrow for two Yemeni Resistance scenarios, bringing the arsenals of Saudi Arabia and Yemen into the game! A huge map includes the decivise Marib Offensive, in which Houthi rebels advanced against a superior opponent and even thwarted interference from al-Qaeda militants as they seized a strategic dam. Here is an idea of the strategy you might use:
Let me know what direction you think this mod should go. With the arsenals of Syrian Arab factions added, only small amendments would enable more scenarios set in this conflict. The amount of interest can influence the direction of the mod.
Now I get to Suddenly Strike the Twin Towers as an ISIS terrorist
I wonder how the reaction would be to that. So far, the Sudden Strike series has made WW2 Germany playable in every game. But AQ, and 9/11 as a mission? When we have the WW2 German faction, they are always just doing battlefield missions, not massacres, so maybe there are rules
