Ashes 2063

Mod review

The first installment is extremely creative and quite good. Not perfect and has some hiccups in balance on Survival mode (final boss looks so cool but is so easy and necessary to exploit) but I think 2063 remains one of the best Doom WAD TCs anyway.

The second installment becomes a phenomenal game all itself. In fact I would say its fair to call the first installment just a really good demo / tutorial for what Afterglow offers.

Frankly Afterglow is BETTER than plenty of full staffed FPS standalone games I've played and is among the upper tiers of Retro "Boomer" Shooters.

If you want a very fun Apocalypse FPS with some well thought out design and some extremely impressive style don't hesitate to PLAY IT!

Duke Nukem: Alien Armageddon

Mod review

this is sort of a review "in progress" as i've played through all of the LA Meltdown as Bombshell and i'm nearly done with Lunar Meltdown with Duke, so while not a total playthrough i feel i have a fairly informed opinion on how the mod functions with classic content

honestly the mod is fantastic and really REALLY goes well beyond the normal effort. i feel like a few things could be tweaked and balanced and i've had the odd GFX or animation issue, but this is stellar.

New character, enemies, new AI, an entire and well done RPG system that includes experience for weapons and your character as well as a "cash" system for upgrades you choose yourself. its truly exceptional work for sure

any fan of Duke Nukem or BUILD engine games needs to check this out and the only reason its not a 10 is the few issues i have with balance and the visual bugs

so i will say this review keeps updating as AA grows. its simply an im incredible labor of love that adds a staggering variety of content.

The Way Of Ira for Blood

Mod review

This is a review in progress, but I love it so far! It's not overly obtuse and obsessed with hidden objects as some map packs and is a fun and creative campaign in its own right.

Thanks for all the hard work and looking forward to seeing how the rest of maps play out.

Death Wish for Blood

Mod review

I've gone back with a fresh play-through after an initial poor impression some months ago and have to say the quality is MUCH better than I gave it credit for. The level design is vastly more interesting than core Blood modules and pulls some interesting tricks with the Build Engine.

I will say a few encounters seem a little over-tuned and some of the Funhouse style "GOT YOU!" moments probably shouldn't have been instant (or nearly so) deaths. But overall this is a wonderful effort and fans of Blood NEED to play this!

SkyMoMod V13

Mod review

Simply amazing work. The texture and meshes here are top notch and provide a variety that makes skyrim much more interesting to explore. Not to mention the quality is complete professional studio quality. However I rate it less than perfect simply because of how many compatibility issues that are potentially inherent in the mod as it isn't just for looks. It gives custom stats and abilities to the new critters.

Now, this is not a slight to the great work done by the author. A lot of hard work and real effort has gone into this beauty. If you just want a bit of a change and don't run very many mods, grab this mod and put it in your build now! However anyone running any mod that alters a level list or enhances enemy NPCs/Monsters might want to shy away. You can get it to play with the other mods (I had no troubles using Deadly Dragon spawns instead for example), but it won't exactly play nice. With many of its monsters being unchanged by whatever else you've stacked into your game odd problems and slightly unsatisfying encounters are bound to show up.

Final words: Get it. If you're bored of skyrim, still get it. Even if you just install the mod all on its lonesome and set the difficulty as low as it can go to just explore and and meet the authors creatures. It's worth a good look.
