The Remaster of Gothic II: Gold Edition is the most graphically complex version of the game to date while maintaining its originality in terms of story, look and gameplay. All areas and locations were basically retained as in the original - except for the now much higher level of detail in the game worlds.
The project is based on content from the L'Hiver Edition of unknown111, revised worlds from the High Vegetation Mod by felsenschmied, bugfixes by Falugify and further graphic packs from Artemiano, Bentraxx, CeeX, ExCluD3D, Halk_Hogan, LordRiisis and Vurt. Without the individual works of these developers, the project would not exist in this form.
From all the individual packages, the most authentic and suitable objects and textures were selected and a variety of detail corrections were made. The package also contains new and upscaled textures as well as various adjustments and bug fixes - always with the claim to maintain the recognition effect of Gothic II and to intensify the atmosphere through higher detail and an overall fancier game world.
Essentially, the following edits have been made:
1) In addition to the collection of objects or meshes, the most suitable and beautiful textures from the graphic packs mentioned were put together into a new, independent package and graphically adapted to each other, e.g. through new transition textures, exposure adjustments and color corrections. Optimized original textures are also used in many places.
2) Many textures for paths, floors, roofs and walls have been reworked so that their constant repetition in the game is less noticeable and they fit better into their environment. The flora has also been graphically adapted so that, in contrast to the High Vegetation Mod, it looks even more natural and thus harmonizes better with the game world.
3) In some cases, completely new textures have been implemented - especially in the addon world. The inventory and menu of the game have also received a graphical facelift.
4) Many of the textures used have been optimized with a modern A.I. image upscaler and individually sharpened. Thus, monsters as well as faces and armor of the NPCs appear much more detailed - without alienating them. In addition to better polygon models and textures, all NPCs have received a correction of the partially asymmetrical eye area.
5) The seawater in Gothic II has been replaced by an elaborately animated water texture from the HD Mod by Bentraxx for the game Thief II - The Metal Age. This means that the water now looks much more appealing even with the original renderer in Gothic II. The more beautiful waterfalls from the L'Hiver Edition also find their way into the modification in a further optimized form.
6) The Remaster also contains many bug fixes in the game worlds compared to the original and the High Vegetation Mod. Incorrect objects and textures have been removed or corrected. In addition, more details have been added. The scripts for particle, sound and visual effects have also been revised and supplemented with further features, such as ambient lightning by magic.

A diehard Gothic fan here.
Your work seems to be very interested as it combines assets from many projects.
Just one thing: From the very first time i played G2, eons ago, i was bothered with how the pass to valley of mine was guarded... I mean, a simple wooden fence and door with 2 knights, which is ridiculous, considering what horrors lurks behind it.
I once saw a mod, i dont remember which one was it, that has changed that area, or better say, fix it in terms of realism. There was a huge stone wall, with a nice iron gate, similar to a castle entrance, with room and beds for the Paladins guarding it. Have you done something similar to that specific area?
Why is this in .exe file? It's just a mod please provide files in a normal zip file.
Change the extension exe in rar and extract it with winrar
Hello there! This mod is so interesting..I wanna play again Gothic 2 after several years xD. The Question is: can i use this mod on gothic 2 wothoud Add-on?
Actually you can use it as a texture pack with "Gothic 2 Classic" mod by D36:
- Change graphics_remaster.mod from *.mod to *.vdf and put it in game's data folder.
- Normalmaps files go into system/GD3D11/Textures/replacements/Normalmaps_g2_classic
Have fun!
how could i do that? There is no .mod at the end and i can't find a way to change it in properties
EDIT: never mind, found a solution
Everybody hates that you have found the solution but haven't shared it. However I have figured it out.
lds-101 mentioned 'graphics_remaster.mod' file. Actually, at the moment the file is called 'Remaster_Graphics.mod'. After instaling Gold remaster mod from the exe file you can find the .mod file under below path [game location]\Gothic II\Data\ModVDF. Indeed, this way you can take just textures from this mod and use it on classic G2.
However, this is not the only thing which Gold remaster mod brings. You can do the same with other two files 'Remaster_Plants.mod' and 'Remaster_Worlds.mod'
but still, some other improvements can only work when you start game as Gold Remaster in a Gothic Starter.
For example this mod fixes extremely annoying error from GD3D11 renderer mod where multiple objects (VOBs) penetrate walls and can be visible from the other sides. I was looking for the solution to this for last 3 months..!
So it works perfectly together with DX11 mod. It even corrects the other one.
Hello Marco_Marwin. Thank you for awesome remaster! Really enjoying new graphics!
How do you think, is it possible to add some "Caribbean vibe" to the water near pirate camp?
In one of other graphic packs I've seen armors without helmets(dragon hunter, knight, paladin). It looked really neat. Is it possible to add it to remaster as optional file? (or even make default)
Also +1 to removing lens flare around torches. It makes no sense and torches would look much better without them.
Anyway thanks for your effort. Keep doing what you doing!
Hey, armors without helmets are not planned and weren't available in the original game. To avoid errors with lens flares just install the latest version of the D3D11 renderer.
Thanks for your feedback
"Hey, armors without helmets are not planned and weren't available in the original game"
And you did great NOT to add NON helm armors! G1&2 are great for their realism even on simple things like this, though modern games ignore that!! More and more ppl in rpgs are mad about this, and dunno why someone would ask something like it...!
The texture for these lensflares ist called flare6.tex when I remember it correctly. So I changed every entry in the worlds with a hex editor from „flare6“ to „flare9“. Flare9.tex is now a new but empty (only alpha channel) texture. The easier way would be just to replace the flare6.tex with an empty alpha channel texture, but I am not sure if this texture is used for other flare effects besides torches. So i wanted the original texture unchanged in this case. Cheers
Thanks mate, you saved my OCD :D The texture name was zflare6. Created a transparent tga in gimp, and replaced the original one using goman. Works like a charm.
Could you share how did you managed to remove these lens flares? I would really appreciate it. Cheers.
They say lens flare is a flat texture

Hope one day you'll have a mood to change it :)
In v1.45 of Gold Remaster I removed them. But a new game is needed.
Cheers
Thanks for the effort, mate. Unfortunately it ain't working when used as graphics pack.
