This is a fan-made overhaul mod for the popular 1997 MALICE total conversion for Quake. Included are a combination of bugfixes, adjustments for modern Quake ports, enhanced mapping features, added visual effects, and gameplay tweaks that should make MALICE a less frustrating but still challenging experience.

For BETA 2:



  • CSQC HUD

    • show current magazine over ammo total ✓

      • need to see if a seperate, half-size font is possible as just scaling it down will look dumb

    • show icons for sub torpedos

    • alternate HUD layout option akin to Ironwail 'modern'

    • BIG ASS GUN (BAG) ammo and icon only visible when it's actually equipped

      • should free up serverflags for hub-based map jam progression tracking and deathmatch settings



  • settings

    • toggle tracers off

    • toggle bullet holes off

    • toggle enemy thinkrate increase by skill off

    • toggle on approximation of old enemy health scaling by skill via damage reduction (mainly for purists, but might be fun for co-op)



  • mapping features

    • monster passive settings (from Violent Rumble/PD3)

    • monster turretmode settings (from Violent Rumble/PD3)

    • monster tethering

    • corpses for every enemy type ✓

      • hiding thing_body in the FGD, but leaving it in code

    • Vasquez bots and their waypoints

      • individually placed and non-repsawning unlike the trigger_deathsquad version

    • cutscene stuff (from PD3)

      • eventually might try to replace the demo-cutscenes with in-map ones, but only if I can get them pretty much 1:1

    • various PD3 sound stuff


  • other

    • fix baracudas sometimes going through walls and having a hard time moving up ✓

    • make uzi pickup ammo 32 rounds instead of 30 to match mag size ✓

    • make mortar gun flames not stick on entities that technically have health but are undamageable ✓

    • make reloading subtract ammo from total pool when adding to magazine and allow using weapons with just mag ammo but no pool ✓

      • basically how you would expect weapons to work... we're at an awkward halfway point between that and vanilla Malice right now

    • fix issue where you will sometimes be stuck with one usable torpedo in a sub ✓

    • make health packs unobtainable in a sub after dropping under 100 sub health ✓

      • will eventually add a 'repair kit' pickup for subs, probably to be dropped by monster_minisub



    • fix issues with turrets in cutscenes (Bossman's office) and the final level

      • will probably have both a ceiling and floor-mounted version, with floor being the default



    • fix cutscene demos setting FOV despite QC FOV changes being removed ✓

God this formatting SUCKS.
