Petrograd: an action-thriller first person shooter. Enter the shoes of a Black-Ops Special Agent, investigating the disappearance of a full city's population overnight. An eerie atmosphere and immersive environments are just the beginning, nothing is quite what it seems in this suspenseful experience set in post-USSR Eastern Europe. The purpose of this project was to create a trailer with near triple-A quality, that goal was achieved on Feb 2009, and thus this project has concluded. Welcome to this months update of the extraordinary Crysis Modification Petrograd; in today's update you will get a glimpse into the development of the project, featuring new character assets, weapons, vehicles, city buildings, and new environments.

Welcome to this months update of the extraordinary Crysis Modification Petrograd, developed by the Space Cowboys Team under the guidance of Game Director Roy Shapira, there are many new assets created on daily basis, in today's update you will get a glimpse into the development of the project, featuring new character assets, weapons, vehicles, city buildings, and new environments.

New Character Assets

Petrograd will include many Non-Player Characters, each with their own personality and skills giving an immersive narrative experience, today the team showcases some of the new characters.

Final First Person Legs Asset
In the previous update the Space Cowboys showed the First person Arms, today they present the First person legs, featuring interactive equipment patches, and sidearm holster, that will animate at any time the player will perform the actions and look down. The Legs where created (modeled and textured) by talented team member Anton Kozlov, and are now being animated by team member Chris Lau.



WIP Female Model
No Story is complete without some female characters, her specific role will be kept as a surprise. shown below are the WIP female model created by new team member Sean Kelly, who is now finishing the model and will be texturing it shortly.

New Weapons Assets

Petrograd has a large variety of weapons for all the different purposes, from long range sniper rifles to close quarters auto shotguns, today the team features one of the deadliest weapons - the Browning M2 0.50 caliber machine guns.

WIP Browning M2 0.50 Cal Heavy Machine Gun Model
The Browning M2 is a massive beast of a weapon, usually mounted on vehicles or stationary gunner posts, it has powerful 0.50 caliber slugs that can penetrate a tank's hall up to 3km away!. It is belt fed and has a slow rate of fire. the model has been created by team member Addison Gallagher, and will be textured shortly.

New Vehicle Asset

Petrograd will have many different vehicles, some will even be drivable. today the team showcase one of these drivable Russian Jeeps.

WIP Russian Jeep Model
Petrograd City is located in the great Russian area, and thus will require some Russian made transportation, new team member Sean Kelly has created the model and started texturing it, he is now optimizing and perfecting the textures to look just like the real thing, so expect to drive that Russian jeep in-game.



New Building Assets

The Space Cowboys Team is hard at work to create all the different architectures to make the Petrograd city as immersive and realistic as possible, there are many new assets created daily, and today they showcase some of them.

WIP Hotel Model
Petrograd City will include many beautiful and historic buildings the Grand Plaza Hotel is no exception, team member Ben Wright has created the wonderfully detailed model, and is now optimizing and texturing it.


WIP Central Bus-Station Model
The now inactive Central Bus-Station was a humming comers hub in Petrograd city, fairing hundreds of people daily. Team member Ben Wright has created the model, and is now working hard to texture it.


WIP Residential Building Model
Petrograd city has many types of buildings both historical and modern, many of them will be complete from outside and within, so the player can explore the different apartments and even scope the area from the roof-top, one such residential building is shown below, team member Chris Schweiger has created the model and is now texturing it.



New Environments

The Space Cowboys Team is hard at work to create the most wonderful and detailed levels, to help immerse the player into the thrilling story and gameplay. Today the team features some of their new environments for your viewing pleasures.

WIP Rural Environment
The Rural Environment at the outskirts of the city will bring interesting gameplay opportunities, team member Benjamin Thatcher has created and enhanced some of them, today the team showcases some of the new rural environments below.


WIP City Environment
New team member Hendrik Lenz has joined as a Level Designer, and immediately started creating great City environments, today the team features some of his work.



Upcoming Level Design Tutorial

Benjamin Thatcher, the lead level designer on Petrograd, is considering working on another tutorial regarding level design and working with the CryEngine Sandbox Editor. If there are any topics in particular that you'd like to know more about, be sure to mention them in the comments below!

animators aren't hard to find..just ones that animate in max are. i animate in maya, just can't in max.

Another very impressive media update, I look forward to the next!

As a suggestion for the next tutorial, I would like to see your process for developing a map that is made up predominately of interiors because anyone can pick up Sandbox and create a beautiful jungle enviroment, but after seeing what you guys are capable with the inside of buildings as well I'm very interested in seeing how that is pulled off.

(or just enclosed areas in general)

Awesome work!
Love your first person assets like legs and arms. This adds some atmosphere.

Hope it won't require Warhead.
Cos I don't want to buy this crappy made Sims-like addon with few maps.(Jesus, even "Sykes mod" letters from HUD stay on completely black screen when other HUD is hidden).
I bought Crysis mostly for mods.

Good job, yeh there are a number of tutorials i can come to think of, but since i dont regulary work with Cryengine 3 id better leave it to the experts.

UAZ has turned out not so. The road clearance is very small, a ceiling high, and the car is short. I am assured of it, I see this jeep every day.

the above pics look cool. the trees look custom, but good quality. the uniforms are looking great too. I very much would like to see realistic ballistics in the game. RIfle realism would suit this very well and bring the game's greatness a little higher. just somthing to consider.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments,

we are planning to have realistic rifle ballistics, including holding your breath mechanics, and aim bobbing while moving, and steadier aim while prone, and there are few complimentary mechanics that will make this project very immersive. just stay tuned for more updates :)

I think there isnt a "Telephone" in petrograd, but a "Телефон"

Otherwise looking good. It isnt a really a big job to translate thigs to russian language

but it can. the max range is somewhere around 4 miles (7+ km). and with armor piercing rounds or explosive rounds it can go through a tanks hull.

Hi Guys, I've been watching this mod since way back in the day and I just cant wait no longer. It looks so good that I gotta play it ASAP. When can we expect to get game pad addiccted little grubby fingers on the mod? please answer, its getting to the point that I cant bring myself to look at ModsDB updates for the fear that its not ready yet. PS, keep up the good work. :-D

Thanks for the comment! I can't give any specific dates at this point, but I can say that as far as progress, everything is going according to plan. Look out for a another trailer in the coming months. ;-)
