The Revenge of Dal Gurak
Version 1.0 by Prospero 2005

Demo Map for testing Dal Gurak as a Player Character.

This map uses a cloned copy of DalGurak model. The internal name is "DalGurax"
The texture names are the same as original Dal.

When I started this Mod my only intention was to get Dal playable on a basic
level, but this map does have gameplay elements.

The Dark Tower is being raided by hoardes of Dwarfs and Knights together with a
few Barbarians and Amazons. The 4 original Player characters appear at the end,
after you have slain Lord Kerman. When all 4 Heroes are defeated, Dal has won.

Dal has a limited number of melee attacks, but makes up for this with magic stuff.
He has his familiar green wobbly spells, firey discs and halfmoon trails combos. I
have also given him poisonous breath.

He will only fight well with his own sword, which increases in power with it's
masters's own Level. (He can throw it). He can use other one-handed weapons, but
clumsily. For variety I have made him a Mace, which he also uses clumsily, but it
can be thrown like the Ianna Sword and will fire lightning bolts if your enemy is
more than 5 metres away. The Mace also increases it's power with Dal's Level.

His Magic Shield is activated from a purple gem permanently in his inventory. It
will break, but each time he levels up a new use is added. The shield is stronger
as his Level increases. His normal shield will never break and will drain life and
inflict rebound damage to enemies. However, he can't use it in this manner while
his magic shield is intact.

There was a major problem with stowing weapons. The Dal model has no 'Back' anchor,
so when he sheathed weapons they just floated about in the air. The best workround
I could devise was to make the weapons/shields fade in and out.
He is a sorcerer after all.....

Dal will take potions/food as usual, but I have made it so he can eat bits that get
chopped of enemies. These not only give him health points but increase the toxicity
of his breath. If he eats enough he will vomit on enemies which is always fatal if
they get hit. If dal eats a limb that has come off a Player-type enemy, then eating
it will give him an extra combo.

Another ability is the Teleport. If locked onto an enemy he can teleport behind them.
If no enemy he will go about 4 metres forward. Handy for getting though the traps that
the sneaky Dwarfs have set for him.

Dal will use bows, but due to his structure you cannot see to aim when the bow is drawn.
I have not found a solution to this yet, but he doesn't really need a bow with all his
other armaments.

Guards.

One of the major gameplay features is the way he controls the Black Guards. If Dal
engages in combat his guards will try to come to his assistance. Pressing the
'Lock On' key when no enemy is near will also call them to him. There are only a limited
number (20 I think) and they are not respawned. Some have already been captured so
Dal has to find and free them before they can fight. Dal gets the XP points for any
kills they make, so it is better it they do the fighting. They will also level up and
gain better weapons if they survive long enough. If Dal levels up without killing then
it means they are doing their job.
Dal has his trusted 'hachet man', Vinculanus. He is very useful and more deadly than
the other guards. He cannot be killed, but if badly injured he will vanish for a short
period to recover. Dal can teleport him to help where he is needed most. If you let him
do the killing he will build up his level to a point where he is almost unbeatable. If he
doesn't get the practice he will stand no chance against the later more powerful enemies.

* I have bound 2 keys - 'Backspace' and 'H'. If you have these keys bound to other functions
then they will be overwritten.*

New Toys.

The Dragon Teeth that you will find lying about can be thrown. Where they land a skeleton
will rise to attack your enemies. (As long as they land in a clear area). If they don't work
you can pick them up and use again. The skels have a limited lifespan. They will leave a new
Dragon Tooth when they vanish.

Magic Skulls are great fun. Throw them and they ascend to a point and look for enemies. If
they see one they will attack. Good for getting at archers in high vantage points. If they
find no targets they fall back to earth and can be used again. Avoid throwing them in confined
spaces as they will get stuck and be wasted.

There is also a power gem that will give extra power and energy.

The enemy Dwarfs and Knights in this map will respawn indefinately but their numbers will
decrease as Dal gains Levels. There may be framerate issues if you get a lot of action in one
place, but this is only a demo map. I have done a few changes to the NPC AI so that they
operate more independently. ....
