This version has been superseded by v1.3!
The long awaited 1.2 patch has finally arrived. Along with several visual improvements to explosions, debris and nebula skyboxes, this patch is largely focused on the Classic campaign with several new major gameplay features that bring Classic closer to emulating the original TIE Fighter, a whole host of balance changes to accommodate for them and of course the usual array of regular balancing and bug fixes to the Reimagined campaign as well.
This version has been superseded by v1.3, go here to download.
DO NOT INSTALL XWAU Update 5.5, it is not compatible with TFTC v1.2!
This is a full release of TFTC v1.2 that serves either as a full installation or patch from v1.0 or 1.1. Please make sure you follow the instructions provided. For a full list of changelog notes, please visit this link The notes and readme are also included in the zip file. We have also updated our Installation Tutorial video as well.

Installing TFTC v1.2 (Full, clean installation)
The v1.2 installer works as both a full, clean installation or to patch an existing version. v1.2 also contains the XWAU Update 5 patch bundled with the installation so you do not need to download and install the XWAU Update patch separately. If you are installing only as a Patch from v1.0 or v1.1, scroll down further to the Patch installation guide. We will first look at how to install a full, clean copy of TFTC.
- Install or make a clean, unaltered copy of X-Wing Alliance. The default locations for this are:
- GOG Install: C:\GOG Games\Star Wars – X-Wing Alliance
- Steam Install: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars – X-Wing Alliance
- If you are installing from Steam, make sure to run the game at least once after installing so Steam processes any first-time installation files before proceeding further.
- Install the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade Mega Patch Xwaupgrade.com – Remember you do NOT need the update patch.
- Install TFTC v1.2. During installation you will be given two initial options. In this case, select ‘Clean X-Wing Alliance with XWAU 2020 installed only’.
- Once selected, some extra options will be shown for which version of the soundtrack you’d like to use and which version of the initial 4 training missions you will play in the main campaign if you choose to play TFTC Classic. If you are new to the X-Wing Alliance series or want a proper brush up, we recommend you play the updated tutorial missions. Bear in mind these updated training missions feature different voiceovers, so no Guy Siner!
- Once installation is complete, run the X-Wing Alliance shortcut or use Alliance.exe in the root folder to bring up the launcher. You must then use the Palpatine Total Converter to switch to either TFTC Classic or Reimagined.
- Once the conversion is complete, you can run the Shortcut or Alliance.exe again and you should be presented with the TFTC Classic or Reimagined logo in the launcher and you can run the game! – Note: If you are installing from Steam, DO NOT run the game from Steam, instead use the provided shortcut or Alliance.exe otherwise the game will not run.
- Final note, the mod will by default create a Pilot file for you as AlphaOne (Classic) or AlphaTwo (Reimagined). If you wish to create your own Pilot name, use the Pilot Options in the launcher to create a new pilot. Then when you next run the game, you will be prompted to put in a new pilot name. When you swap between Classic and Reimagined, it will by default always load one of these two pilot files so remember to swap back to any custom pilot files you’ve made afterwards!
If in any doubt as to this process, you can visit our YouTube page where an instructional video is located, which shows each step of the installation process. Please remember that TFTC will NOT function properly without XWAU installed first. Many other game options can be selected using the Babu Frik's Configurator after you have finished the installation.
Installing TFTC v1.2 (Patch from v1.0 or v1.1 only)
If you already have TFTC installed, either v1.0 or v1.1, you can use the installer to simply patch your current installation to the latest version. Before proceeding we recommend you backup your pilot files as a precaution. You can find them in the root folder of your installation with the file extension .PLT.
- Before proceeding with the installation, IT IS CRITICAL that you first use the Palpatine Total Converter from the XWA Launcher to restore the game to XWAU (Restore the Light Side) as shown below. If you do not do this, the installer will generate an error and fail to install.
- Once you have restored to the Light Side, you can run the v1.2 installer and when asked, you will want to select ‘TFTC v1.0 or v1.1 installed’
- At this point there are no further options to select and you can just proceed to install. Once installation is complete, you can use the Palpatine Total Converter to switch back to TFTC Classic or Reimagined and continue to play!
you crazy son of a gun...........my man..............
many thanks
Is there any other download links ? My download timed out quite a few times already. I'm very excited to play it, look honestly impeccable.
Hi, you can try this mirror here: Xwaupgrade.com
Hi,
I can't extract the zip-file for some reason. I'm on Linux and the md5sum of the download is okay. Tried three different programs for extraction. None of them can read the file.
E.g. unzip reads:
# unzip -l ./TFTC_1.2.zip
Archive: ./TFTC_1.2.zip
warning [./TFTC_1.2.zip]: 5759862619 extra bytes at beginning or within zipfile
(attempting to process anyway)
error [./TFTC_1.2.zip]: start of central directory not found;
zipfile corrupt.
(please check that you have transferred or created the zipfile in the
appropriate BINARY mode and that you have compiled UnZip properly)
As I said before, md5sum is okay:
# echo 7fc2bb13b6d129b6c49c576c8dd48c92 && md5sum ./TFTC_1.2.zip
7fc2bb13b6d129b6c49c576c8dd48c92
7fc2bb13b6d129b6c49c576c8dd48c92 ./TFTC_1.2.zip
Hi, I'm not a Linux user so I'd be of limited help here, it says it seems corrupt, have you tried re-downloading or trying the download from the mirror? If not, hop on to our Discord, we know TFTC works using Lutris and we have a dev from there who can help.
For some reasons unzip cannot open this file, but 7z from p7zip can. The md5 matches: 7fc2bb13b6d129b6c49c576c8dd48c92, so the download is correct.
Hi, I've now uploaded a 7zip version of the file, hopefully this should help people having problems: Xwaupgrade.com
This mod is awesome, thank you for your amazing work!
I first had "random" slowdowns, but then I installed the game on my SSD and no more problem.
You should have been in the top 3 mod of the year. Awesome work.
Thank you! :)
Installed the 1.2 update with that 7zip patch and now my game is in VR mode. What happened here?
Use the Babu Frik configurator in the Alliance launcher to alter VR settings on or off I believe.
Cheers, it would appear the upcoming performance patch is no longer on the XWAU website for download. Any reason this was removed? Any ETA on when it will become available?
You can still get the preview version in the forums. blue max has now posted a new beta Update which has enabled VR but please bear in mind it's likely bugs are present or may not work fully. Join our Discord server for more info and assistance.
I am getting an error message when I install XWAU2020 after GOG XWA install:'System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null...Etc.' then install stops
???
OK, resolved, found solution here: Xwaupgrade.com
QUESTION... because i just saw that this version is released... can i add the remastered soundtrack to it... or it is inside ?
Hi, the Remastered soundtrack is the default bundled option when installing 1.2. You can also choose from 3 other classic MIDI soundtrack options when installing :)
ym... guys... i have problem... i can't install the mod... i instal X-Wing Alliance with the Upgrade Mega Patch... but with or without the Update to the mega patch when i start to install the TFTC mod - it just crash at some point and nothing happens... where could be the problem ?
Hello, if the installer is crashing/closing midway through install, this is typically caused by you having insufficient disk space on your C: Drive. Please check the installation tutorial as it covers this. If you continue to have problems, hop on to our Discord server and go to the Helpdesk channel.
also is there to remap keyboard keys for keyboard only flight controls ?
Unfortunately, keyboard controls are hardcoded in, only controller/joystick controls can be modified.
That's just a bomb of some kind! SUPER!!!
Any advice on playing this on PC with an Xbox controller? Seems like I need about 12 more buttons
You can join our Discord server and post for some help/advice in the Joysticks and Controllers channel. Ultimately X-Wing Alliance and the previous games were designed with a joystick in mind.
Thanks, I do recall the old stick joystick being a requirement to play the game along with I think a keyboard overlay so you could keep track.
I have the marvelous joystick siderwider force feedback II. Will it work with TFTC 1.2 ? I would like to be sure before buying the X-Wing Alliance and installing the upgrades (like described in the tutorial video). Thank you in advance.
Hello, it should work fine. It may require some setup and tweaking, but the game is compatible with most joysticks. You can join our Discord server and post for some help/advice in the Joysticks and Controllers channel if you need any further help.
Thank. I have bought the game and after I have strictly followed the installation process explained here. I have access to the game but with some trouble. Is there a place where I could gain some help? I don't have access to discord. Also : with the Palpatine Total Converter I can switch to either TFTC Classic or Reimagined. But the version with the robot close to the pilot, is it the reimagined version ?
Hi, you can run Discord via your browser though you will still need to register an account. Use this link to join: Discord.gg
Without being able to see screenshots of what you're seeing its harder for me to help. But when you run the XWA launcher, it should tell you which version is running - either XWAU, TFTC Classic or TFTC Reimagined in the little splash screen above the options.
Thanks for trying to help me, Angel :-). I'm running TFTC reimagined. I have a Discord account but when I launch it via my browser (Chrome or Mozzila) I only get the logo rotating during hours (without having possibility to click on something). I don't know the reason.
Anyway, I have just posted my questions on the xwaupgrade.com, hoping I will receive help :-)
Keep up the great work! we really appreciate your effort!
Is TFTC 1.2 working with Steam VR? I have Reverb G2 and run TFTC through Steam vr with FPS VR runs in backround. All computing was on CPU, not gpu. Frame rate was about 15 FPS. How i can run TFTC in VR with GPU turned on?
Specs: 3070TI, Ryzen 3600x, 16GB ram, ssd m.2 NVME
ps. is it possible to run it with Open XR in VR?
Incredible work, kudos!
Hi, yes its working with Steam VR. You can download the new GPU update from the XWAU website, there are instructions in the readme on how to enable it and it is VR compatible. If you continue to have issues, please join our Discord server and post in the vr-help channel, our team will do our best to help you get the VR up and running :)
Can I install 5.5 now?
No, v1.2 is not compatible with Update 5.5 and never will be. v1.3 is currently in beta testing, we're aiming for release end of July or first week of August. It will include 5.5 as a standard.
There is a god who loves me...
Thankyou bloody heaps for this!!! Been playing Tie Fighter since the DOS release... I've waited decades for your hard work! Bravo! Cheers! I'm about to sit down with sum bourbons and my new flightstick and then I'm about to time travel back to the late 80's... One quick question though, do you have a donation page? As I would like to say thankyou with a little bit of hard earned dosh...
Hello and thank you for your words, hope you have been enjoying the mod!
