Report RSS TFTC Post 1.3.3 Update - 1.3.4 on the way!

A quick update regarding the release of TFTC 1.3.3 and some issues that have cropped up we feel need addressing.

Posted by on

Hello everyone, I have a quick update on TFTC since we released the 1.3.3 patch. So far its been pretty successful and has certainly attracted the biggest interest of any patch we've released since v1.0 with Ars Technica giving us some love and over 25,000 views of the patch release update as of this video. Its always a pleasure to welcome new players to our mod and we hope you enjoy all our efforts.

Sadly though, 1.3.3 has thrown up some issues which we feel need addressing sooner than later so we will start working on a 1.3.4 patch to fix these issues. For example, B1M2 Classic is impossible to complete due to an error with the primary goal trigger and a vital setting was left enable instead of disabled which can make B7M3 Reimagined near impossible to win because the ISDII Majestic can be destroyed before you can even get there to defend it. I have already put up a zip file of quick fixes which should resolve most of this which you can find on our Discord server under the #quick-fixes section, or from our website which also has a quick fixes section under the installation category.

There were also some new advances made just as we released 1.3.3 which in particular address the rather long loading times of missions as well as launching/landing in a hangar causing a several second pause as the game transitions between inflight and the hangar screen so it is my hope we can include this for 1.3.4. I'm not entirely sure on the timeline for a patch release but I am hoping we can release something by the end of August and I may also make any beta's we test public so the entire community can help us if they wish to do so!

So stay tuned to our Discord, Twitter - sorry 'X' -, our website or my YT channel for future updates and until next time, fly safe.

Something I've noticed that kind of bothers me is that the concourse, all sub-locations within it, and the text within (like the tech library) has a very pixelated appearance, almost like 480p has been stretched rather than upscaled. Juxtaposing this with the hi-res gameplay within missions, it stands out pretty obviously. Is this a 'last order of polish' type of issue, a 'it isn't likely to be fixable' issue, or merely 'we don't think it's important enough to spend time on it' issue? I'm honestly curious as to how you see it.

Secondly, I've just been playing the first Training Mission, and I've noticed a few bugs:

1 - At the very least in the first mission, all Bonus objectives give 0 points.

2 (EDITED for Clarity) - About 1/3rd of the time, explosions and other damage indicators caused by laser fire to the Z95s and Xwings in the first mission simply don't occur. Lasers lance out, hit the target, and simply disappear, leaving no sparks or other visual indicator that damage was done. I've not investigated further, but it stands to reason that this is a systemic, game-wide issue, not merely a one confined to the mission.

3 - Occasionally, the music will simply stop playing, though it can be restarted by going into the game menu and then returning to the game.

4 - When selecting a craft other than the default one, such as the TIE Defender, the displays, such as those indicating speed, are not aligned to their correct location within the new craft.

I am using a 16GB AMD 6800 XT on Windows 11, with 128GB of DDR4 RAM.

I've been loving what I'm seeing from this, and can't wait to see 1.3.4!

Hello:

The Concourse screens currently are simply locked at 640x480 resolution which is why they are much lower quality seemingly than inflight. Though this hard limit has now been recently broken, we are still in the process of creating the new HD versions of these rooms, the animations will take the most time.

To address your other questions:

1: The first four training missions of the campaign intentionally give zero bonus points. This is because the Secret Order ranks/cutscenes are intrinsically tied to bonus score and narratively speaking, you've not met him yet.

2: I'm not sure what you mean here, points from explosion splash damage? If so then that's an engine thing based on what it thinks are assists or not, there's a sliding scale of points given depending how much damage the game thinks the player did to a target.

3: That's a known issue we've been unable to resolve.

4: That's an issue with the simulator because I think its only loading the craft INI of the ship you're supposed to fly and each FOV/individual settings of the craft are located in their own INIs. I could be wrong here, you would need to join our Discord and query the guys who do all the graphics/coding level stuff.

Apologies, I had first pointed out the problematic Asteroid field in 0M1, and then discovered the hot fix pack and that it wasn't meant to be there.

What I observed is that shooting an enemy fighter only produces a visual indicator like sparks or anything of that nature about 2/3rds of the time - the remaining 1/3rd, the laser beams simply disappear when they hit. It's a little unsettling.

That other 1/3 of the time is when the fighter has shields. Laser hitting shields just drains the shields and would not cause the sparks and explosions from hitting the hull of a ship.

I just wanted to chime in and say how awesome this is. I've been having an absolute blast. Not only is this a huge technical achievement, but the reimagined missions are outstanding. You can absolutely feel the love and effort being put into this, I can't thank everyone responsible enough for doing it. For the past twenty years every time I've seen a thread asking which game should be remade, I've always said that it should be this one. Nothing but appreciation for the crew who has willed that into existence. Thank you to all involved!
