I remember when i was younger, that i decided between this game and Spore. I'm glad i went with Spore. At least that one still has things such as a loving community to this day, and lots of mods. This one ended up in the dustbin of history, and brought down its entire series with it.
Its true but sad, EE2 was amazing and EE3 had potential with the early stab at grand strategy, I believe the turn to cartoony graphics and the de-sophistication of the mechanics made EE3 unable to match up to its predecessors and therefore unable to keep its base. A fatal mistake a lot of games seem to make, trying to match up to the AAA game of the day and forgetting about their base.
