Rubicon is a standalone mod for Command & Conquer® Tiberian Sun®. The aim of this project is simple: to shape Tiberian Sun into what it should have been. This includes revising everything from graphics to gameplay, while keeping it true to the original.

Welcome back, Commander.

First of all, let me express my gratitude to everyone who voted for Rubicon during the Top 100 Mods of the Year competition. I wanted to post this article and promote the event before the polls closed, but life got in the way. Fortunately, you didn't forget. Thanks to you, our fans, Rubicon has made it to the Top 100 mods in 2023! Being a relatively new mod, I consider this a great achievement. Thank you for helping us reach this milestone!

Now the other, much harder competition has begun: the race for the Mod of the Year title. I feel like that's a little too ambitious for now, but I don't want to discourage you from voting either. Remember, you can vote for multiple mods, so do give a vote for fellow mods have received significant updates this year like Dawn of the Tiberian Age.

With that out of the way, let's look at what's been cooking up behind the curtain, shall we?


Campaign Mission Previews

Since the first release, I've slowly but steadily continued to work on Act II missions, the second part of the Tiberian Sun campaign. Creating a quality mission, even if by tweaking an existing one, takes a lot of work. It doesn't help that I work at a 9-to-5 desk job, study, and try to maintain a speck of social life. Thankfully, the very positive reception of the mod so far gives me confidence and motivation to pursue this hobby.

I've just played Skirmish for a few minutes and I gotta say, it looks excellent. Can barely wait for the next update!

I just wanna ask: How can I activate the Realistically Scaled Units option? Seems to be grayed off and I can't turn it on.

Really praying this mod is still in development. It's literally everything I have been hoping would happen for TibSun since the late 2000's. The alpha release is fantastic, absolutely perfect. Can't wait for Act 2. And Act 3 :)

I would love it if the Mammoth mk2 could be a lot bigger than it was in the original game. Is that possible?

Do you have any plan to use some asset from Tiberian Sun: Retro mod?

I really like how they did the sidebar icon, really bring the game to life & imagination.

By the way this is the mod that I have been waiting for so long,
I really love your work!
I am looking forward for the rest of the campaign missions and Firestorm campaigns too but please take your time.

Please keep up the good work way to go!

Thanks for the praise. No, I don't need to ask for assets from Retro. It's a great classic mod, but I think I can do better.

The sidebar icons that Retro uses are recreations of beta TS icons. While I used to appreciate that style in the past, I can see why Westwood made the change to a simpler style. In the beta icons, most units and buildings had a desert/wasteland background, which would look unfitting when you're playing in an arctic map. In addition, the object is often hard to tell apart from the detailed background.
