Try reinstalling Medieval 2. I have the steam version and had the same problem, but after validating and downloading missing files, all my battle sounds work fine. So I'm guessing for you you'd have to just reinstall. You might want to temporarily move your third age folder somewhere else before you uninstall Medieval 2, and then just put it back after you install the game again. Hope that helps
