Thats how ships have attacked for centuries, firing broadside so more guns can actually face/shoot at the target. Almost never are more guns facing forward than to the side (in most designs)
For the mod, besides adding units and the like to land, will the battle system itself be changed? I've never liked land battles in the vanilla game, especially because of the I: extreme durability of infantry (a turbolaser shot to the head won't kill one!) and the II:popcap, small size of maps, few places there are to land and the III: general lengthiness of battles produced by impenetrable shields and powerful artillery. Also, I think that if, in the GC if the enemy hasn't built a shield, one could just orbitally bombard the enemy's base. These are general suggestions that will hopefully be taken into consideration anyway.

Will this be able to latch onto enemy ships and board them?
I have an idea. Possibly for the mod, all outdated ships could be removed and just the modern ships would be used. A comparison, in todays society, we don't use Shermans and KV-2s anymore, we use just the modern tanks, IE. Abrams and the like. Just an idea, anyway.
For the Third, new ship, if i were creating it, would add just Three deck clusters placed in a "Y" formation around the fuselage. But thats just my input.
I was wondering, wouldn't turbolasers made for space combat instantly pwn anything they shot at on the ground?
How much more powerful will the modern forces be, compared to the outdated forces? I found that in the Beta version the Imperial II-class Destroyer to be more powerful than the Pellaeon-class. I think the outdated ships should be much less powerful, but that's just my opinion.
The land map should be the streets of Stalingrad! :D

I like some of these ideas, but the consortium was already WAY overpowered, so are you going to balance them with the other factions? Really, a random pirate group should not be more powerful than the Empire. I do like the ideas though :)
