A small mutator that turns Unreal Tournament into a Top-Down shooter. Compatible with any maps and mods, unless they force a camera change.

- In mutator flavor, compatible with any gametypes or maps you want!

- Great playability: move around using the keys in a fixed rotation, and use the mouse to target wherever you want;

- Dynamic Camera: it'll try to mantain a fixed zoomview but if if hit the ceiling, it'll be closer, but will change the FoV (field of view) accordingly to make your vision as wide as possible;

- Aim Types: by default, the aim type is automatic, shooting at the same vertical height as you are, and will be automatically changed when you're going up or down a ramp. You can also change the type to manual (by configuring a keypress for that), allowing you to shoot at the ground where you're aiming at (which can be an advantage, for weapons like the Rocket Launcher). If you move your cursor too close to you, the aim type will also change, making you face the floor, allowing you to perform impact/rocket jumps as well!

- Hard to spot: not only the aiming becomes harder, but your vision will also be limited - response time is really needed;

- Bot control: the mod will simulate the same difficulties a player suffers for bots, limiting their range and untargeting enemies too much above or below them.

I'd like to thank Blackcheetah, the creator of Frenzy Tournament, since I got my inspiration from there (and of course I took a good look at its code as well to see how the camera was changed) to create my mod.

Here are the advantages over Frenzy: it's a mutator and not a gametype, so it supports any maps and mods, it has MUCH better controls (the main thing I disliked about Frenzy Tournament), has aim options, has a dynamic camera, will display shieldbelt effect to the player himself... well, everything I guess.

Something seems wrong, when ever i fire, it seems to shoot at my feet,
And i'm not sure if this is a bug, but the character never rotates from the angle they start at (so i end up walking sideways and backwards alot)

Edit: wait nevermind was just a mutator confliction

This is UT meets old GTA

Why do people have to reference old games... GTA doesn't belong here. This a TOP DOWN VIEW. All game design concepts stand on their own and don't need game name drops.

you covered everything in an awesome new idea. Most commmercial devs would just ignore obvious problems. Also, all your ideas right now are BRILLIANT!

Thank you so much for the kind words. I still have to fix the multiplayer on it, since it's not working 100%, specially in laggy servers, but in singleplayer it'll work just fine.

It feels like a whole new game, seriously.

If you're walking below a bridge, the camera will zoom to your position, and change the fov to make you able to see everything around you even though it's zoomed. The problem is that if the difference of height on the camera is too big, it take a while to change its position... yes, I'll take care of that on a newer release, making it zoom a little faster if the distance is too big. Can you name a map where this happens often?

Only one thing.. You need to improve the Camera view in the next release (Or a patch) so that you can see where your walking.. Like if you go under a bridge or something you cant see yourself.. And that might get confussing.

I've put it before I uploaded the video... just waiting for the file to be authorized since then. If you ever play it, please leave your thoughts later, so I can improve it :)

Well, there is a problem (two, actually):
- Extreme FPS drop at start of match
- I keep aiming at the floor

It's weird, but thanks for the feedback. What are your system specs and rendering device you're using? The FPS drop should be happening due to the transparent mask... if so, I'd love to know your specs, and I'll probably add a way to disable it via a mod menu.

Aiming at the floor should only happen when your mouse cursor is over yourself (a little system I did to support rocket/impact jumps).

Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz
Point of View nVidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB
4GB RAM
Unreal Tournament GOTY v436
Direct3D10 video renderer v15

I don't think that with THESE specs a FPS drop could be caused by just a screen overlay though...

wait. I just reduced the screen resolution to 640x480 and everything worked perfectly (Including FOV, which wasn't there before). Strange...

D3D10 renderer for UT? Didn't even know about it. Care to try out the this OpenGL renderer: Cwdohnal.com ?

Also, UT doesn't behave very good in multiple core machines, producing either lower or higher FPS than it should. There's a fixed exe that stops that effect, in case you don't have...

Anyway, since you could give it a go, any thoughts about the mod?
