First release of Half-life: Year of the Dragon. PLEASE READ EVERYTHING BELOW!!!
!!Please read everything before downloading!!
Hello, and thanks for downloading the first demo of the mod! This demo is mainly for testing the waters to see how it plays for everyone, and to see what people think of it. I do have a few things to mention so lets get to it.
Do I need Half-Life?
Yes. Yes you do. Now, this mod runs on Xash3D so you DO NOT move the contents to steam or anywhere really. It's far easier to move the 'valve' folder from Half-Life to the mod itself. For most users this will be:
[Hard Drive Letter] :\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life
A folder called "valve" will be there. Copy that folder to where the "qspyro" folder is and place it next to it. DO NOT PLACE THE FOLDER IN THE 'QSPYRO' FOLDER. NEXT TO IT ALONG SIDE THE 'YOTD.EXE'
After the folder is placed it should run and have all the content it needs.
Does this support controllers?
Yes. One thing to mention is not all controllers will work in the same manner. There are options in the 'Advanced options' menu to help bind and adjust the controller. The game will not automatically assign buttons and that must be done manually!
PS4, and Xbox One controllers are confirmed to be working, and so are some Logitech controllers as well. I cannot guarantee success with all controllers!
Recording footage with OBS
I wanted to mention that the best way to record footage via OBS is with the 'window capture' option. Game capture leads to graphical problems and what not due to this being on Xash3D and also using older opengl related code.
Bug reporting!
I implore for people to report bugs and to give their thoughts on the mod! It really helps with catching bugs sooner, and getting them fixed. You can send me a message here, or on Discord, or Steam. I don't frequently check this page so keep that in mind before reporting anything.
hot
Is about time!
I like dragon stuff :)
Just finished it, I'm really loving it so far! Great idea to use the gems as "currency" for the first aid stations
We lost Brutal Wolf 3d today, but we also have the year of the dragon demo. at least the day ended on a high note
epic
alright, lets try this baby out!
f*****ckkk yeaaaaaaaaaah
Minor bug but funny:
Standing on the lip of a trashcan lid and charging causes Spyro to jitter violently until he falls off.
I was testing to see what things I could break in the level from bookshelves to filing cabinets, I remembered in some goldsource games the trash lid can get broken so I tried to do that.
Needless to say, I had to stop playing for half a minute since I was laughing so hard.
On to the criticism:
Great job! The controls were rather spot on, however when using a controller the 'active camera' mode felt rather too active, if it accidentally hit a wall the camera would jump about and cause Spyro to start moving in a different direction, Not bad per say but can be annoying especially when moving in tight areas.
Dark areas are suuuper dark, it was very difficult to see where I was even with the flame lighting up the area a bit.
Despite those though I did manage to make it through and enjoyed the conflicting nature of cartoony Spyro in a dark dangerous place like Black Mesa! Keep up the good work!
That was fun! Can't wait for the rest
Well done!
what about a linux version?
Okay, this is epic
fianlly! ive been watching this progress for months now. Lets hope its good!
This is very neat, So I wonder how other video game characters would be modded into Half-Life, such as Crash or Sonic.
Awesome!
This is so good! The movement, the camera, the attacks... Everything is so smooth! Also, I like the non-filtered textures and the dynamic shadows. They make this even more stylish.
And... Spyro is leaning on slopes! He has a collision animation, a ladder climbibg animantion and an animation of a barnacle eating him (it also changes the way you attack). Fire makes light! The camera avoids walls! The FoV changes dynamically when you ram!
This is how you do game mechanics, man. This.
As for the issues... Shadows behave weirdly when I'm standing on crates. I had a hard time trying to figure how to pull the lever in the freezer chamber. Camera avoids the walls, but not perfectly.
Never planned on building Xash3D on linux but this gives me reason to
FWGS team already made this job for you:
Github.com
But the mod itself is also required to be ported on Linux to work properly.
Great and unusual mod! I love the engine Half-life!
major issue camera keeps spinning
in configuration you need to hit the 'l/r trigger' option to fix that.
Have to be honest, first time i did see the dragon character i thought that was just silly and no fun at all. But, now that i did see a video of the demo i have to say, that played really fine and well. So, great job!
Leon
very good ,need more .
Ran into an interesting bug regarding the controls and camera. I'm using a Cooler Master MK850 keyboard, which has functionality for analog keys, and it's supposed to emulate an Xbox One controller. However, when I start the mod, the camera starts moving left and up, and Spyro is continuously moving forward, regardless of whether I had the gamepad mode on or off.
I figured out a workaround by unplugging the keyboard before starting the game, but sadly it means it doesn't receive gamepad inputs when I plug it back in, but the gamepad stuff actually be the root of the issue anyway. It's not a huge problem, the game is perfectly playable without analog input, but it's a shame regardless. Maybe I should try with a Steam Controller instead.
But in general, this is freaking great mod. It's amazing how much it feels like a wizard merged a set of Spyro and Half-Life discs together, and I love the use of gems as a health restoration resource, and the extra features you've been working on, including new models for Spyro and Sparx, is neat - I don't have nearly as much nostalgia for the PS1 games as some other people, I vastly prefer the Reignited models and art style, so it's nice to know we could at least have the option to use higher-res models in future updates.
Mods spyro in half life 2
I saw a youtuber playing this mod, starting from the train cutscene. Does anyone know how it was done?
i have a half life 1 steam i play this mod
You know. This runs really well. And if you want to get serious, it makes sense a game where they make experimental portals for a living could intercept a dragon, much like Ripto. Though Half Life is easily the grimmest place Spyro will ever see.
ooaaaaoooo
wat
half life
and
year-of-the-dragon
How do you connect a controller? it wont work at all for me.
