Thanks to the creation of SNES emulators, many of the originally released Super Nintendo games have been packaged up as ROMs and are now playable on any system which has an emulator built for it (such as PCs, PSP, portables etc etc). Also because the games are no longer bound to expensive and complicated cartridges, many indie developers have tinkered with these games with interesting results (such as playing as Sonic in Mario). Nintendo tried to stop the homebrew scene, but it lives on even today.
