Hey world! Here you'll find even more art by our artist. This time surrounding the conceptualization of Grandpa Zé's workshop!

Exploring Ideas:

Like previously mentioned in the first devlog, we were set on making the workshop have a linear layout with 3 rooms where you'd do different parts of the task at hand. The idea of each room being painted in a different colour was brought up to give a better feeling to the player of doing something different and moving foward with the task.

After that, our artist was tasked with further developing the concept of this environment. Starting off exploring possible looks to the workshop with many thumbnails, to try out different values and compositions.

Varied Explorations of Grandfather Zé's Workshop

Once we narrowed down which thumbnails we found the most fitting for our game, some sketches were done to define the look of the place where the player spends most time of the gameplay. We wanted to be sure it turned out well because of that.

Final Touches:

We ended up going with the first sketch above as it would make more sense to see glass art pieces previously made by Grandfather Zé in the environment. The tasks being in the wall would clash with the actual task icon in the game's UI. So our artist worked with said sketch and made a grayscale artwork to be able to explore different uses of colour in the wokrshop. It was decided that we would keep the idea of the 3 colours blending from each individual room which gives an idea of separate tasks to be done and progress with the colour progression.

How cozy! I hope you find the workshop as warm of a place as i do. As I'm about to leave, I'll let you take a look at a early rough sketch done in the same fashion as the rough sketches for the outside that I showed in the previous devlog.
