Rebellion has announced that its VR remake of classic arcade and PC action/strategy title, Battlezone, has gone gold – which means it’s ready for retail production and distribution. Battlezone puts you in control of a futuristic tank and pits you against waves of enemies in an abstract, arcade world as you fight to destroy the enemy AI core.
To celebrate, Rebellion has released the above trailer which showcases some never-before-seen features of the game. The studio’s co-founder, Jason Kingsley, has gone into detail about those features in a post on the PlayStation Blog. These include new enemy types like heavy tanks; customisable cockpit loadouts; upgradeable weapons; special secondary equipment; and varied mission objectives.
Kingsley also explains how the procedurally-generated campaign works:
“As you progress through the game’s campaign, you must choose “hexes” from your map to explore — each hex represents a mission, location, or event. Some hexes offer special missions that have a huge tactical impact in the long run, but the trade off is they might be harder or require a riskier approach. Players have to consider their whole campaign strategy, not just the moment-to-moment first-person shooting.”
At Gamescom, it was announced that Rebellion would be partnering with Sony to publish Battlezone on PlayStation VR, which means that Sony would be producing boxed retail copies of the game in time for its launch on October 13. The game will also be available digitally, and it’s also playable on Oculus Rift, and through Steam.
Here are all the major announcements coming out of Cologne this week.
A procedurally generated campaign that should offer great replayability.
Needs to play on VIVE (maybe with revive - and rift vers).
