Portal Remastered is a mod that attempts to remaster the original portal in the portal 2 engine. The models, textures and lighting have all been updated to be more in line with the style of portal 2 while making sure the levels still retain somewhat of a Portal 1 vibe.

This version improves upon the Test Chambers that have already been released. The models have been updated to fit more in line with Portal 2, the textures have been updated to feel more like Portal 2 and the dirty models have been replaced with clean ones. A bunch of glitches were also fixed in the process.

Version 0.2 adds test chamber 18 along with lighting improvements on some levels.
Update 0.4 is almost complete. This will include Escape Part 1 as well as some bug fixes and lighting tweaks in the earlier chambers. I'm still working on fixing the particles for the fire pit in the escape (I'm currently getting this error at the moment "C_OP_RenderSprites::RenderUnsorted: Attempting to use an unimplemented sprite renderer for system "fire_large_02_warp"!"). Once this is fixed update 0.4 should be pretty much ready for release.
I've updated the screenshots for Escape Part 1 again. This should be pretty close to final (although there are still a few lighting tweaks to be made) but let me know your thoughts. I do apologize for the lack of updates on the escape but I'll have plenty of time from now till the end of summer to finish this mod.
It looks awesome, but just curious: what's the difference between this, and "Alive & Kicking"? I know they're both upcoming remakes on the original. I'm still looking forward to either one!
Though both "Portal Remastered" & "Alive & Kicking" take place in the "Portal 2" setting, I imagine there'll be some creative differences with some of the test chamber designs and especially the BTS areas.
Like in this mod, Test Chamber 18 has a bottomless pit in Ratman's Den, showing off some other test chamber exteriors and catwalks in the background. They probably won't have that same setup in "Alive & Kicking".
Since there hasn’t been any updates for the maps and need some work, I’ve officially decited to stop keeping track on this mod. Goodbye!
Bruh, you dont have to keep an eye on it everyday but some patience is always nice for the dev behind the project..
I feel this is one of the reasons devs never finish their projects is because life is a lot and people expect an update everyday..
You think this is long I dare you to join the CoDZ community and try to have patience for maps that release years after announced..
There is one that is heading into I think its 2nd or 3rd year of being made and like the dude isnt constantly doing nothing but working on this, he has other shh that he has going on in life..
I know this may be coming off a little negative, I just woke up so please keep that in mind but like man if keeping an eye on this is really that hard for you than just extend the amount of time you try to keep updated..
Make a week, make it a month whatever suits you better..
I also have to say that because this honestly is looking from what I have tried looking for the best Portal Remade/Remastered experience, its almost complete and has had some time put into it to make it as consistent to Portal 2 as possible..
I do mean it as well when I say its the best experience I have seen as well, I have looked across ModDB, GameBanana, Nexus, and the Steam Workshop and I have only found like two Portal 1 Remasters other than this one..
Both are on the Workshop, one has chamber 19 finished but will no longer have anymore work done on it and the other goes through the entire game but is restricted to Custom Chamber Maps which has a lot of limitations to it..
Also if you have a VR this is also by far the best way to experience it at the moment..
If you install Portal 2 VR and then launch Portal Remastered it will play as normal to how it plays on Portal 2..
As someone who is on a 5 year waiting list to change my life for the better, I can say that patience is definitely a trait worth having.
That said. I still check this site every day for updates. I don't expect there to be an update every time, but I still keep tabs on this mod (as well as sites modding my other favorite games) anyway.
Oh for sure for sure, I didnt have the patience to sadly wait to playing it until it was fully released before playing it but I have the patience in general for the wait..
This mod is a god send though for people wanting to experience Portal 1 in VR, incase you are unawre due to this game running directly off of Portal 2 and its engine with a Portal 2 VR mod it forces Portal Remastered mod into VR however there a few things that are kinda weird but that doesnt completely take away from the experience..
As 2 examples, the Menu in vr is completely messed up and is very blurry and pixelated which is only bad for the reason due to having to try and change settings so is recommended to change settings outside of vr, and a second thing is that the player arm model renders with the Portal gun which also makes sense on why it happens..
This wasnt intentional designed for VR but I do hope if the Dev is interested in having it run in VR then the possibility of having this the best Portal 1 VR experience is the highest Possibility since every single Portal 1 VR experience is fricking terrible in someway..
Gmod is buggy as all hell and require a list of mods, Vorpx costs money and doesnt have 6dof controls, a Portal 1 game port over to Portal 2 is jank and the game breaks with anything to do with Portals, Checkpoints and triggers, and Portal 1 Workshop Maps for Portal 2 are the best of all options but are very limited due to either people not finishing the escape sequence, not doing a majority of the levels, or the fact that the Level Creator built in-game is quite limit for creating an entire game within it..
Also oop, sorry for this reply being an entire page out of a book.. XD
I'm still working on it btw. I'm really sorry for the lack of updates, I've just been extremely busy with college. I'll try to provide more updates and screenshots whenever I can.
Quick update on Test Chamber 19 + escape part 1; its getting real close. Right now, I'm mostly working on lighting tweakes and level of detail enhancemnts. I don't know exacly when it will be ready but I'll give a date once I'm finished everything level design. I'll probubly provide some more screenshots in the meantime.
I thought it was canceled. glad it didn't
I am happy to see that you are continuing this and honestly greatest find in terms of Portal Remastered stuff..
It is sad how very small things like certain skips for speedrunning were changed but honestly it does make sense in fitting with design of P2..
I will say not all skips are gone but some are now definitely alot harder than what they were in the original Portal..
Also this Portal technically VR compatibility which is the best I have seen and heard about, I know you may say as the developer of this mod that this isnt doesnt come with VR but the moment I realised this uses P2's engine I installed Portal 2 VR and started up Portal Remastered through Steam VR, it worked perfectly..
Btw this would be a great sell point for your mod if you say its compatible with Portal 2 VR..
I will say one thing about it incase but I dont expect a fix only because its caused by another mod but the player arms that are holding the portal gun still popup in VR unfortunately and more so unfortunate that they have the missing textures.. qnq
But I dont expect that to be fixed, just telling you incase you ever get asked about the P2 VR compatibility..
P2 is also not complete so there is a lot of bad menu quality and this also translates over to your PR mod..
I have played this to the end of Chamber 18 both on officer flatscreen and in vr..
Please dont be like most others that create a P1 Remake and then ditch it before its complete.. qnq
I have seen way too many of these mods that have either been ditched on Chamber 19 or before and the ones that manage to get past those chambers are broken af.. qmq
Anyways, keep up the good work and cannot wait to see more progress soon.. ^u^
I am glad you are still working on your amazing project, good luck and happy new year
Where does the Escape Part 1 end again? Is it in the sewer tunnel just before the Turret Arena? OR is that too far ahead?
