Tech 5 is a next-generation engine from id Software. Used on their most recent title 'Rage' it has also been announced that it will be the technology behind the upcoming 'Doom 4'.
Upon announcing id Tech 5 one of the first features presented to the public was the inclusion of Virtual Texturing supporting textures with resolutions up to 128,000 x 128,000. This technique allows the engine to automatically stream textures into memory as needed, meaning that the developer need not concern themselves with memory restraints or texture limits. A stand-out feature of id Tech 5 to developers is it's resources for cross-platform development allowing both consoles and the PC audiences to take advantage of it.
Some other features of the id Tech 5 processing structure include:
~ A new evil story will come this October 2017 ~
Considering all the rumors that have been about Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and The Evil Within 2, it's no wonder that these two games were many hopes for Bethesda's secret game advertisements at today's conference. Nor is it strange that it was exactly those that were announced that day.
Now, Bethesda has confirmed that Tango Gameworks, with Shinji Mikami at the head, is working on The Evil Within 2. Once again, we get to be Sebastian Castellanos' shoes, he comes to regret that he got up that day. This scare will all come true when the game is released on October 13th.

Since DOOM 4 has been released a couple days ago, is idTech5 going to follow the tradition of releasing the previous idTech engine's source to the community as GPL?
lol
Bethesda will not do it.
Next good generation game engine. :)
You should Put "The Evil Within" in the 'Games' section.
Not sure if a banner image of Frostbite 2 is a bit off in the ID Tech 5 section :)
Yeah, asked that myself, too haha :P
The Idtech5 engine should be named StaticEngine, because all, from shadows to objects is static and fixed with glue in the 3d world, its a big disappointment and a step back from the awesome IdTech4 and IdTech3, but i hope they get again the in the correct way on Doom 4, i just want like Doom 3 but better and more wide spaces but dark and scary, very scary !!! :D
You're just as dumb here as you are in doom3world.
Everything was static in Rage, yes. Idtech 5 is a tool. Nothing you build with it has to be exactly like Rage.
Just like Crysis 2 doesn't look as nice as crysis 1, but cryengine 3 ***** all over cryengine 2 in every conceivable way.
i want quake 5 :)
do you mean quake 6 or 5?...
quake 2 attack strogg planet (marine Bitterman)
quake 4 attack-2 after dead Makron.(stroggification. Matthew Kane)
quake 6(5?) ????????? ????? ?????
Me too ..
