Install Instructions
- Extract the archive to a temporary location (this can be anywhere)
- Run TemplarGFX_ACM_Overhaul_Installer.exe - This installer requires .NET 3.5 on your machine, otherwise you'll get an error. Thankfully, you probably already have it. If you don't it, follow the link below to install it.
- Set your games installation folder (this is usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\Common\Aliens Colonial Marines\)
- Choose the Master Effect quality level.
- Choose a difficulty setting (leaving as default are my personal settings).
- Click the Install button at the bottom and wait a bit while it copies.
- Close the installer and play ACM!
Click here to download the .NET 3.5 Installer (if you dont have it)
Edited by JonnyThunder (6th Apr 2016, 17:20 GMT) : Updated the mod installer to include a progress bar and the ability to create partial or full backup of files being replaced in the installation. All backups will be stored in a generated folder in your game directory called 'TemplarGFX_ACM_Backup.x'. Each run of the installer will generate a new backup folder. Also note that there is currently NO uninstaller, so you'll either have to verify files in Steam or copy back your files from the backup folder to revert to original.
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well Gearbox this is what we expectet!
Great stuff, thanks!
Do i have to delete V2 Files? And with V2 my ingame graphic settings always reset when i restart the game. is this supposed to happen or shouldn't i even change something? Currently they're on lowest...
Afaik you don't need to delete the V2 files - they will all be overwritten with the new version but you could verify game files before you do the install 'just in case'. The game settings thing I think is to do with PecanEngine.ini being write-protected but don't quote me on that. The new version installer gives the option to remove readonly from this file.
The Installer is not loading..mouse only circles
.3.5 is installed and working. Windows 8.1 x64
That's pretty odd. It's been tested in Win7 and Win10. It doesn't end up crashing or offer 'details' on why its not working?
Have you tried running the installer as an administrator? Also, make sure you've extracted the zip before you run the installer.
Just installed this version. For some reason is looks FAR worse than v2 even on Ultra. Jaggies, Film grain, FOV all seem to look like they are locked to Default. Any ideas as to why?.
Sounds like the My Documents stuff did not install correctly!

HOLY COW... fast soldiers is LETHAL. I can't even get back from getting the flight recorder using "Fast weak" soldiers and Normal difficulty. =)
How can the difficulty be changed in V3 until I adjust to these new, twitchy xenos? Re-run the installer I assume?
Also, THANK YOU for putting the little splash screen up when the game starts so I know the mod was successfully installed - that's a great little touch but so very helpful. Kudos on the installer as well - I couldn't get v.2 running (crashed on start) but v.3 with the installer fired right up!
you can choose in the installer slower soldier profile or copy it manually from the install folder. Playing with fast xenos requires a new strategy you cant let them get close to you, so you need to lure them back and give yourself more space, if you use AR. Running and gunning will get you killed 9 out or 10 times. Learn their movement patterns and levels so you can pick spots where they cant attack you directly or follow each other in a single line. SMG is the best option to fight them - high rate of fire and low recoil. Flamethrower is a good option to slow them down though refills are rare. Keep shotty for last resort it isnt too inconsistent.
Am i the only one having a problem with facehuggers? I can't get them off me by pressing E...
I believe someone else reported the same issue in a different Comment yes...
The quicktime events are turned off. So donĀ“t get to close on facehuggers or lurkers. ;-)
After installing this mod, playing the game and then exiting it ACM forcefuly restarts again and again. The only way to stop this is to exit Steam completely...
This is an issue with the base game, here's a fix!
Steamcommunity.com
Just set the ACM.exe start as admin.
Windows 10 pro 64 bit, game stop working after i save the soldier first mission, open the lock door and after i do 5 steeps game crash on my desktop with "stop working". Don`t know what i did wrong, i installed step by step as in readme.
Try using the installer that comes with v.3 - that fixed it for me at least.
I'm having exactly the same issue, tried reinstalling the mod it didn't fix it. Anyone else encountering this?
Yep, me too!
Tried V4 and it crashes after the door opens and some steps...
I fix the game, after reinstall the mod. :) Now is working, thx for the mod, is very nice, good job.
Question for the mod author: did you tweak the brightness settings as part of the mod? I'm finding that post-mod, if I adjust the brightness to the point where I can "barely see" the pale-against-black icon (same as vanilla), the resulting screen images are VERY contrasty, with washed-out highlights and very black, almost impenetrable shadows (which may have been what you were going for?)
But the game is insane hard to play now... hard as hell :D 1-2 hit form an alian and you are dead... this is "stupid hard".
lag is too much.
gets bad dips when getting hit by aliens.
looks better but unplayable :( hope it gets round out. i really want to be able to fnish the game ,me haha
I followed the instructions etc, the Installer works fine but the bodies still disappear.
After I tried for two hours, I have found a solution. The Files in (..)My Games\Aliens Colonial Marines\PecanGame\Config are not write-protected after the installation, (somehow they will be overwritten after the game starts, I dont know). . so I set them up myself. Now the xenos no longer disappear after they died. (Sorry for my bad english, it's not my native language :) )
This didn't work for me. Anyone else having this issue?
Go into "/Documents/My Games/Aliens Colonial Marines/PecanGame/Config/" and delete all files in that folder. Launch the game and close it after it has finished loading. Re-install V3 of the mod and then launch the game again. See if that fixes it!
I run Windows 7. I've tried several times to install this mod, and some aspects of the mod install. Others don't seem to. I don't get any sort of splash screen to indicate that the mod installed correctly, but I do see a shaders notification at the top of my game screen. It reads: compiling effect... failed!
There are no graphical changes to the game. I have tried manually installing the files. Any ideas?
The My Documents section is not setup correctly

Did you increase the alien soldiers melee damage or something like that? Because I think its a tad high. Making the aliens smarter and more responsive is great though.
Please add autobackup option to the installer!
The V3 installer has (by default) backup settings set to 'full'. This should back up any file it attempts to replace in the relevant and most recent backup folder. You can find this in the game directory.

Hello find the mod really cool working very good greetings from Germany ^^
Jo!!! Everything is working perfect too me!!! I like the new lightning system. No more fake lights, Thumbs up!!!
If you could remove the Dino - Heads on Bug Hunt, it would be awesome!
Cheers!!! And thank you for the really good work!
What's up with the folder in the rar archive that lists "04 addons - Difficulty Options"? I see nothing about this in the installation instructions.
Just use the installer, or copy the contents to the game's install folder if you want a different difficulty
Wow, getting glimpses of 'what could have been' with this new alien AI overhaul! The spot where you go downstairs after getting the smartgun is intense! Using the 'fast but weak' AI which I think is close to the sweet spot; aliens wreck you still if you're not quick to react, but you still have a chance.
What sort of feedback are you looking for? To what extent can things be changed? I'd like to see:
- human enemy removal from bug hunt
- the recoil system has always been weird to me. Felt like wrestling with a fire hose - too much horizontal wander, should be mainly vertical error.
- possible to make pistol sound fx like the movie's?
- possible to always have motion tracker active in background? When it's down you hear everything still, but you still need to pull it up to see.
As much feedback as possible. rather than explain the limitation of HEX editing, just spout off everything you want to see changed. If I can I can, if I can't, I may be able to come up with something similar, or fix it through another feature
Just a few suggestions.
-In my experience with FPS games since the nineties, horizontal recoil is never considered a good thing if it goes in both directions. With weapons that you do not intend to be 'spray and pray,' standardize the recoil a bit.
-Is there any way you can fix the arms being visibly detached from the character when running max FOV? Max FOV is the way to play, but seeing your arms hovering there in space during certain animations takes the immersion right out of it.
-Alter the weapon upgrade text to reflect what they actually do. I'm sure you already planned to do this.
-Make reviving fellow players in the campaign take longer. This is a personal preference of mine, seems to take all the tension out of it when it's near-instant.
-Any way to fix the garbage sound cycling with the Pulse Rifle?
-Winters is an important character to the story. But is it possible to make co-op players use the models of their custom marines, rather than the stock ones that they're forced into?
-Some character dialogue still falls out of sync and ruins the feel of the game when it happens.
-Any way to fix the blowtorch you cut Keyes down with? When the game first came out, I remember it working fine. Now, though, it's either no flame or a very cheap looking cardboard cut-out of a blue flame.
I will look into each of these and put my own twist on them! Thankyou for the feedback!

These seem like little nitpicky things that could help the cinematic experience a bit (I like to play with no HUD). Hopefully simple stuff for you!
- remove red X 'hit indicator' from cross hairs.
- remove those floating names above AI marines
- remove the voice/radio icon when conversation is heard
- motion tracker dots back to blue (in bug hunt) like in movies!
- love movie pulse rifle; if bringing back the 'mk2' though, can we get its ammo counter to be a proper 95 as well? *IMO Mk2 never should have happened since the original was so iconic!
Just play with the hud completely off (see the included readme for how)
MK2 will be seeing its return soon along with the reworking of Legendary and MP weapons
-iron sights a bit more visible (e.g. pistols and shotguns and some rifles). They are smaller than in the vanilla game and hard to aim through.
-Gun models reduced. They are taking too much of the screen and make difficult to see fast moving xenos when they are closing in.
-Melee isn't effective anymore with quick xenos which leads to many quick deaths if xeno gets too close. It needs to be balanced a bit with an ability to slow down approaching xeno as it takes ballistic damage. I.e. if you hit it with shotgun blast or start putting rounding into it from AR it should slow down or even freeze for a short period of time. Also they should not be chasing you when you set them on fire. It just isn't in line with the movie. Ripley would have been dead in first 30 mins of the movie if aliens were chasing her after she had set them on fire. ;)
I purchased the game today and downloaded the mod immediately. I followed the instructions, and honestly felt like I did this correctly, but while playing I just saw a dead alien body disappear... I understand that wasn't supposed to happen with this mod, which leads me to believe that something is wrong. Where did I **** up?
This seems to be an issue with the installer unforunately! (welcome to WIP!)
Just open the readme and follow the instructions for "01 My Documents"
