Another Starfighter coming in hot, the R-32 Assault Interceptor joins the Republic Hardliner roster!

In the eternal arms race of interceptor design, the challenges presented by the TIE Interceptor and A-Wing were not left unanswered for long. The Republic Emergency Government’s response was the re-evaluation and production of a failed V-wing competitor, the Incom R-32 Assault Interceptor. Originally denied by the late Republic for clashing with planned doctrinal shifts, its heavier armor and weaponry were perfect for a smaller and more conservative Starfighter force. After a quick weapons modernization, the R-32 saw widespread adoption across Venator garrisons to ease the V-wing out of service.

In the submod, the R-32 is a very solid ‘middle of the road’ interceptor for the Republic Hardliners.
It doesn’t outperform its Tech 3 peers, but is affordable and can be fielded in moderate numbers thanks to its inclusion in Venator garrisons. Armed with an array of laser cannons, the interceptor can tear into armor after dispatching enemy shields via an ion torpedo alpha strike. This makes the R-32 great at punching above its weight on targets like enemy XB-17s, gunships or shielded fighters. Despite this, it can find itself struggling to fight off hordes of cheap fighters if the numbers are overwhelming.
