Sejong The Great Class is the Korean Navy's Answer to saturated air attack. Featuring the Aegis combat system and a AN/SPY-1D radar with 4 fixed phase arrays, the Sejong the Great is essentially a modified Americans Aegis Destroyer, the Arleigh Burke. Although featuring the same combat system, Sejong the Great excels in fire power: it holds a 48 cell Mk41 VLS in the front and a 32 cell Mk41 VLS in the back, in addition to the indigenous 48 cell K-VLS in the back, giving the ship a total of 128 cells of VLS! That's more than that of the American Arleigh Burke's 96 cells and even that of the American Cruiser Ticonderoga's 122 cells. It can employ various types of missiles from the VLS cells, including: the SM-2 missile with a max range of 170km, at mach 3.5; the Hyunmoo-3 land attack cruise missile with a max range of 1500km, carrying a warhead of 500kg at max mach 1.2; the K-ASROC with a range of 19km, a light torpedo with a top speed of 83km/h on its tipped, geared toward anti submarine warfare. What's even more, the ship's arsenal even include a unusually large load of 16 SSM-700K Sea Star anti ship missiles with a range of 150km at speed of 1013km/h (mach 0.85). In addition to all that, the ship also carries a 30mm goal keeper CIWS, with a max fire rate of 4200 rpm, a range of 2000 meters, a 21 cell RAM launcher with Ram missile with a range of 9 km, a blast fragmentation warhead of 11.3kg, a top mach number of 2+. In addition to K-ASROCs, the ship can also deploy the Blue Sharp light torpedos from its 2x3 torpedo launchers, with a range of 19km,and a top speed in excess of 83km/h. Finally, it also carries a 127mm naval gun for fire support purposes. However, the weapon is not the only elements that differentiate it from its American counterparts, it also carries the advance towed array sonar, which the later version of Arleigh Burkes lack. In all, the Sejong The Great is considered to be one of the most powerful Aegis-equipped naval combatant at sea.
